Curious . . . mmmm, so what's new.

Which of the two do you prefer.

If you can have only one . . . which of the two would suit your playing the best ?

Granted, the ES-135 comes in both 'bucker & P90 models.

So, is it an 175 or 135 that will get a home in your guitar collection ?

Re: Gibson ES-175 vs. ES-135

I have a 335, so I have the semi-hollow thing pretty much covered. If I were to go full-hollow I'd want a vintage piece; specifically an ES-175D from '54-'57 with dual P-90s.

Re: Gibson ES-175 vs. ES-135

I considered getting an ES-137 Classic a few years ago. I HATED the 490r/498t pickups. And, I was amazed and put off by the weight of these guitars...my heavier than my expectation. I chose an ES-335 instead and couldn't be happier.

I like the '59 Reissue ES-175 pictured--that's a gorgeous guitar--but this style of guitar doesn't really fit me or the style of music that I play.

But if I had the money to blow on a jazz box, and I'm talking big money now, I'd want a Florentine-cutaway L5-CES. I've wanted one ever since I saw Grant Geissman with Chuck Mangione back in the 1970s. Dream guitar.

Talking about my dream guitar . . . seeing that i can not throw that kinda money at a guitar . . . it is the more common (as opposed to the L5) ES-295.

But will settle for an Epi ES-295, or an Epi Zepyr Blues Deluxe.

Re: Gibson ES-175 vs. ES-135

The ES-175 came with single P-90s also. A new one now would be a custom order, though occasionally Gibson puts them out as a short run reissue. I would prefer the deep hollow body. I like when you can use the guitar as both a good sounding acoustic and an electric.

They did, and of course I (and almost anyone) would choose one of those over a 135. But I made my selection with affordability being a factor. I can probably afford a 135 with singles...but not an antique 175 with them. I also do prefer the slimmer body and the more plain trim of the 135.

Re: Gibson ES-175 vs. ES-135

I'd do a 175 with singles, but practically speaking, I need the upper fret access of the 135.

Just beautiful !

Re: Gibson ES-175 vs. ES-135

That's the finish I want too. But getting to those upper frets with that big heel joint could be a bit rough. I wouldn't kick any of these out of bed.

That is EXACTLY the guitar I was referring to in my post above. Pretty sure that's a real-deal mid-50s 175, or a really convincing reissue (I'd be fine with either). Awesome guitars, and as weird as it sounds I prefer the P-90s to humbuckers (even real PAFs) in a 175.

ES-175 also comes with P-94

But I'd do a slimmer ES-195 with P-94 and cool Firebird headstock
