24 frets, gold top, double cut away, trapezoid inlays, p-90 pickups, Gibson Classic Les Paul. There is nothing like this for sale worldwide! It’s a real Gibson, something to do with lawsuit? Gibson got sued by PRS for this model so it had to be stopped in production or something like that, don’t know what year it is either but highly likely before 2000, how much is this thing worth!?!?!.

Cheers,
Kyle.

This one from 2011 sold for almost $1.7k with free shipping and a case.

I've honestly never seen a LP of any type with a 24 frets, that I remember. The one that sold in the auction posted above was 22 frets. I do like the checking in the lacquer though.....I think goldtops look better the more beat up they are. I'll be interested to follow this thread.

Re: Gibson Expert please put a value on this?

Interesting tidbit about this guitar, it was invented out spite to PRS. They released a Custom Singlecut that was basically the PRS version of the Les Paul. Gibson sued and lost the case. So they decided if a Singlecut Custom was okay, they would release a Double Cut Les Paul, which was the Gibson version of the PRS Santana. The new Modern Double Cut Les Paul is a copy of the hardtail version of the PRS Custom 24.

I’ve always wanted an amber flametop DC.

The prices I’ve seen lately are in the $1200 range.

Re: Gibson Expert please put a value on this?

I would think that would be little different any other early ought LP. The 24 frets help, but the DC models were never that popular. You never know what someone might pay if they are looking for such a thing.

4K AUD though, but surely something like that is super rare and worth a fortune?

Double cut LPs aren't exotic, not even very rare. 24 frets makes it a bit unusual but IMO it's not especially collectible.

That's not to say it isn't nice, but I wouldn't pay 4K even for a matched pair of those.

Re: Gibson Expert please put a value on this?

I remember seeing a number of these in my local Gibson stockist in the mid to late 90s when I was in the market for my first les paul.
Some of them came with beautiful figured tops and regular humbuckers, cant remember if there were both 22 and 24 fret or not.
I seem to remember that some of them had a different shaped headstock too, but my memory is a little cloudy as, not being interested in the model did not pay them that much attention apart from admiring the wood grain on the tops of some of them ( I remember a beautiful trans red and trans green).
Unfortunately the shop stocked up with a whole heap of Gibsons including many top end models just before the credit crunch started to bite and took an absolute age to shift them, great for me though as I scored a custom shop lp elegant for £1500 below rrp.
The Les Paul DC was a beautiful guitar without a doubt and there are not that many around but that does not give it any particular kudos when it comes to value as they never really seemed to be that sought after.
Now, if Gibson had appointed a few high profile endorsees things may have been very different.
If you like it and can get a realistic price for it fair enough, but I would not pay over the odds for one.

I have a 24-fret LP Doublecut, I think it was the Standard. There was another model with 22 frets, the Pro I think?
I love that guitar, although the neck is thinner than my Studio, but I guess that if the neck was too much thicker, there would be too much dive, because the body is considerably thinner than the Studio.

Is there a serial number on the back of the headstock? Then you can find out what year it is?

I’ll have to wait a bit till I get to see it and play it, it says classic on the headstock though.. does that change anything? And how much did you buy urs for?

Re: Gibson Expert please put a value on this?

That one has humbuckers, this one has P90s.

Yep. That's why I described it as a 98 model with a flame top and humbuckers. Not sure which one would have more value flame vs goldtop, hum vs p90s. But if I wanted a PRS knockoff I'd just buy a PRS

Re: Gibson Expert please put a value on this?

I have seen HB ones with 22/24 frets. I have seen a P90 with 22

Never a P90, Gold Top, with 24 frets.

I'll go $1500 US

What would a regular LP Classic bring down under? That would be the best comparison I think of a market area value.
