Gibson fell flat on it's face

So we moved into a new house.
Been here about a week or so.

2 days ago, the landlord had an electrician come over and troubleshoot a few outlets on the garage wall while I was at work. They moved the outside fridge and a couple things in the garage....
I still have all my music stuff out in the garage as we've been jostling things around inside the house still.

Anyhow, I walked outside this morning to get some water from the outside fridge and about had a heart attack seeing my Gibson faded V lying on it's face!
It's only in a Gibson gig bag...not a hard case!

I popped it open real quick expecting to see a broken headstock or cracked neck! Quite literally I was instantly sweating!

Nothing broken.... It's all good.

Take that Les Paul!

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

Bah - can't tell you how many Gibson crashes I have had. Never a break. Whiney people accidents are over-rated and way more rare than you think.

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

I've had my share of guitar accidents over the years, including a number of fallen guitars. Outside of a high speed car wreck that destroyed a case & splintered a hard maple bass neck inside it (and broke a bunch of bones inside me too), the only neck break I ever had was on a Heritage Standard-80. One piece mahogany neck with vintage tilt headstock and no volute. Broke right at the weakest spot behind the trussrod cutout. Probably about the least robust design Gibson ever used.

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

I feel 15 feet in the woods with the Lester on my back in a gig bag. Landed flat on the guitar and only suffered a broken e string and a cracked pickup selector tip cover. Six bucks and I was back in business.

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

Quite a few years back I had the neck broken near the head-stock of my Gibson SG Special caused by a drunken stupor. I decided to get it professionally fixed which cost me around $200. It took about a month but the guy did a good job. He used fibre glass to reinforce the neck and I've never had problems since.

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

Usually the you won't need fibre glad reinforcement, the glue is stronger than the wood itself. The closest thing I've ever had to a broken neck is when I used my 14 pound Les Paul without strap locks. The headstock hit the wooden stage and I thought for sure it was broken. Nope, when I picked it up all it had was a scuffed finished.

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

I've never dropped an axe, I have a strap-Lok obsession.

1 time I was so drunk that I slipped and fell, while playing but I landed on my ass and barely scuffed a pointy end.

This one scared me because it's obvious that the electrician knocked it over....

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

My first electric (cheap old black memphis) suffered it's fate at the hands of a young stupid kid (me) trying to perfect the Steve Vai around-the-back throw.
Not a good idea when one hasn't even heard of strap-locks yet! lol Really it just ruined the trem-bar, while the other damage was just cosmetic.
Lesson learned.

I was playing live in 80's, had a strap pop off and the neck went like a hatchet to the cement floor. Jacked up a tuner, but that was it. Maple neck Norlin, of course....

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

That's how my first guitar broke. It was an Epi LP Special with a Jazz in the neck, my first Duncan.

LOL, I launched this one about 20 feet through the air at some guy's head & all it got was a small chip on the lower bout of the body... I expected it to shatter into pieces but surprisingly enough it was still in tune afterwards! In hindsight probably not the best idea financially but the dude was a @$$ & he kinda deserved it...

He had thrown a beer bottle up on stage apparently trying to hit my bass player because of some B.S. with him & this guy's wife? LOL, if he'd actually hit my bass player I probably wouldn't have minded but he had $#it aim & the thing passed about 2in from my left eye then smashed in front of the drum kit...

I thought he just didn't like the band???

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

My Gibsons have been dropped, knocked off stands, pancaked in and out of the case. Never broken a headstock or cracked a body. Maybe a chip here or there. Need to retune, about it.

I'd never throw them at an unruly audience member, however. I'd set the guitar down nicely, grab my beer and head over up close and personal, to ensure sufficient aim and contact.

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

For some reason, bartenders won't let me have unopened goose neck bottles

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

I was hoping this was yet another tale of gibson falling on it's face.

I'm always devastated by a guitar taking a fall. I feel dirty.

If it woulda been broken, Id have impaled him with it!!!

Funny how many vids are on youtube of kids trying this and suffering terrible consequences...

I wouldn't worry about the guitar, I know at my age now I would be more concerned about myself getting broken.;)

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

Lucky man. My friend had his $4500 PRS fall flat on its face from a guitar stand when we took a break from jamming. It was horrible to watch happen. No issues thanks to the carpet.

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

Back in '92 I purchased a 1985 Jackson Soloist that I always wanted. I had it laying face-down on the floor in the living room. I had just gotten out of the shower when the phone rang... I walked out to pickup the phone (room was dark), and SNAP! I had stepped on the back of the neck, and snapped the headstock clean off!

Re: Gibson fell flat on it's face

I knew a fellow that had an old white Gretsch
Propped it on his amp
Went to step over it. Unsuccessfully
