Re: Gibson Firebird

I really don't like Firebirds. The look is cool, but the minihums are so shrill and brittle to me, it's not really comfortable for me, and the only way to make the neck weight not a factor is to sling it way too low.

That being said, I do own and occasionally play a '79 Thunderbird RI. It's neat for what it is, but I wouldn't consider it an everyday bass.

The trick to the naming convention is to think of the 1961 Les Paul line:
FB-I= LP Junior- one pickup, dots, no binding.
FB-III= LP Special- 2 pickups, dots, binding.
FB-V= LP Standard- 2 pickups, crown inlays, binding.
FB-VII= LP Custom, 3 pickups, block inlays, binding.

Is it just me or do you guys ever get the jones for something you've never even played?

That's it with me for the Firebird.

I've never played or even seen a Firebird & yet I want one...BADLY!!!

Ever since I fell in love with the music of Johnny Winter, I've wanted a Firebird.

No real point to this thread....just drooling out loud!!!! :32: :32: :32: :32: :32:

The best way I can describe a Firebird is..... Its a Strat on Steroids!!

Great great sounding guitar.... Espicially thru a Fender Amp Dimed. It has awsome tone.

Now the negative... They are one of the most awkward guitars i have ever played. The original Reverse models had Banjo tuners in them and the headstock was so heavy as soon as you let go of the neck it would slip down. A lot of them had headstocks break off because of this. It is even harder to play than an SG.

I had reads somwhere that GIbson is selling them again and has changed the tuners to minimize this problem. I have not played one of the new ones only the old ones.

KMC Guitars has an awsome early 70's Firebird that he brought to the NY Forum Jam.... IMO it was the best sounding guitar there.....

Re: Gibson Firebird

if they made a 5-string T-bird...that would definitely be my next bass...i don't need another 4 string, my p-bass does everything a 4 string needs to do.
