Gibson Gothic revisions

got an email where the Gothics have been revamped and are now the "most forward thinking ever". Atleast they have done away with the claw outs and stupidities.. Now they are chambered, have active Gibson pups and Obeche wood fretboards. A sustainable substitute for ebony. Not sure if they will be making an explorer or not, only SG and LP were listed. Plus, they are pleked.

Just thought Id share. Im just glad to see it with no goofy quirks. other than the name.

Gothic Morte..??

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

here is the email: Less the pics.. (at work)
Popular as a stripped down, no-nonsense rocker since its introduction in 1983, the Les Paul Studio receives what might be its most radical rebirth yet in the form of the new Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte. Brand new from Gibson USA, the Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte points the way forward for both extreme style and unprecedented depths of tone and power, taking the single-cutaway Les Paul design roaring into the future even as it approaches its 60th anniversary. Employing a sustainable new tonewood variety, and carrying Gibson USA's powerful new GEM active humbucking pickups—all dressed in extreme black styling—the Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte is simply one of the most powerful and appealing Les Paul Studio models ever created.

The beating heart of the Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte is represented by a pair of Gibson USA's amazing new GEM (Gibson Electronics Manufacturing) active pickups. Made in the image of the greatest traditional passive pickups of all time, Gibson's own PAF ("Patent Applied For") humbuckers, the GEMs have Alnico II magnets and coils wound with 42 AWG enamel-coated wire. They also include active electronics for greatly improved output and extremely low-noise performance. The GEMs are powered by a single 9v battery that yields approximately 1500 hours of service. They have a voice and playing feel akin to Gibson's popular Burstbuckers, with all of that humbucker's characteristic "smooth with edge" tonal response, and they are immune to the loading effects of volume and tone potentiometers. They offer an extremely fast transient response for unprecedented articulation (yet with all the classic humbucker warmth and smoothness), and are extremely compatible with both effects pedals and clean amp settings. Suitable for all styles of music, the GEM active pickups represent a huge leap forward in performance and versatility.

The skeleton of the Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte is crafted from the same ingredients that have helped to make the Les Paul legendary for nearly 60 years. A carved maple top is joined to a mahogany body that has been strategically chambered for improved resonance and weight relief, and a solid mahogany neck carved to a comfortable rounded "50s Studio" profile is glued in Gibson's time-tested tradition. The most exciting ingredient of the entire tonewood package, however, is the exotic African Obeche used for the guitar's fingerboard. A dark, dense alternative to Ebony, African Obeche is fully sustainable. As used on the SG Gothic Morte, the African Obeche fingerboard carries no inlays or binding to extend the model's radical styling. In addition to the guitar's Satin Ebony nitrocellulose finish, the Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte wears a black Tune-o-matic bridge with a black stopbar tailpiece, black Grover tuners, and a black Corian nut which has been precision cut on the PLEK for optimum intonation. All in all, it's a powerful reincarnation of the world's premier solidbody electric guitar—now propelled to greater extremes than ever with new active pickups, sustainable exotic woods and all-black styling.

Every Les Paul Studio Gothic Morte includes a padded Gibson gigbag and owner's manual, and is covered by Gibson's Limited Lifetime Warranty and 24/7/365 Customer Service.

The SG Gothic Morte

It might be a familiar profile now, but the sharp-pointed Gibson SG was entirely radical when it arrived in 1961 to replace the single-cutaway Les Paul, foretelling an aggressive rock style that was years ahead of its time. The SG Gothic Morte makes this double-horned rock icon radical once again. This outrageous new offering from Gibson USA points the way forward both for extreme style and unprecedented depths of tone and power, and embodies the SG's evolution into a 21st century rock weapon. Employing a sustainable new tonewood variety, and carrying Gibson USA's powerful new GEM active humbucking pickups—all dressed in extreme black styling—the SG Gothic Morte pushes the boundaries of tone and esthetics, while honoring half a century of SG tradition.

The beating heart of the Les Paul Gothic Morte is represented by a pair of Gibson USA's amazing new GEM (Gibson Electronics Manufacturing) active pickups.

Comprising the traditional solid-mahogany body and neck that has provided a rich, resonant platform for SG models for 50 years, the SG Gothic Morte introduces an exotic new fingerboard wood, African Obeche. A dark, dense alternative to Ebony, African Obeche is fully sustainable. As used on the Les Paul Gothic Morte, the African Obeche fingerboard carries no inlays or binding to extend the model's "none more black" styling. In addition to the guitar's Satin Ebony nitrocellulose finish, the SG Morte wears a black Tune-o-matic bridge with a black stopbar tailpiece, black Grover tuners, and a black Corian nut which has been precision cut on the PLEK for optimum intonation. Add it up, and it's a radical reincarnation of a guitar that was born to be wild a full half a century ago—but is now propelled to greater extremes than ever with new active pickups, sustainable exotic woods and all-black styling.

Every SG Gothic Morte includes a padded Gibson gigbag and owner's manual, and is covered by Gibson's Limited Lifetime Warranty and 24/7/365 Customer Service.

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

Hmmmmmmmm... not bad!

The SG looks like something Iommi would love to have.

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

$1500 list and a gig bag? Puh-leeze.

The gothics were always pretty sharp. Curious about those pickups.

Won't be buying one.

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

I think that Gothic Les Paul looks pretty cool actually. I used to really dig active pickups, but I'm not really crazy about them anymore. It would be interesting to see what this new set of GEM active pickups sounds like though. Probably i would just end up changing them out with a covered set of Duncan humbuckers.

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

They don't look bad to me. I liked the original gothics but they can't be found anywhere here.

I wonder how they compare to other Gibsons. The local shop has them for 900€. An LP Studio is 1100€. LTD Studio with worn finish is 650€.

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

Interesting choice to design active pickups that look like passives.
And to voice them like Burstbuckers.
Did not see that coming.
Did not.

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

Eff the active electronics. I'd like to put some "red/black zebra" 59's in that LP studio. The "no inlays" thing really grabbed my attention.

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

Well they are... black !

I dig the boards without inlays ^^. If anyone come to play one of these, opinion wanted !

Re: Gibson Gothic revisions

Wow, I think the SG looks pretty sweet. I'd put a set of Distortions in that bastard. :bigok:

Don't get me wrong, I think they look good. For cosmetic purposes, I wish the Gibson logo was an inlay. That would be the only thing I would change about it.
