Does Gibson still carry its ES/ hollow body line? Because there is nothing about them up on their site anymore. :smack:

Re: Gibson Hollowbodies.

I beleive they sell a new model through Musician's Friend. I'm not fond of the finishes, though.

Re: Gibson Hollowbodies.

Buy an older one. They piss all over the ones I've played that Gibson has made in the last 20yrs.

Re: Gibson Hollowbodies.

Yea, Im not inerested in buying one, I'm curious as to why Gibson took them off their site.

Re: Gibson Hollowbodies.

I won't swear to it but they may have moved them all to the Custom Shop. I know they were making some changes at Gibson recently and a lot of those lines were going to Memphis as was the Custom Shop.

*** Just checked they are under Custom, Art, and Historics. Look at the Hollowbodies and the Carved tops. ***

Re: Gibson Hollowbodies.

The factory in Memphis has been making most if not all of the semi-hollow body guitars for Gibson for a while IIRC. After touring the factory last year, I lost interest in a new ES-335 and started looking for alternatives.

The Heritage 535 Special from Wolfe Guitars turned out to be the answer for me - comes with S-D Antiquities, full bindings, and looks like that <|===

Re: Gibson Hollowbodies.

Gibson still makes a full line of Hollow body guitars. The Super 400, L5, 295, 175, etc. FYI the term ES is for "Electric Spanish" this was to seperate lap steels from conventional style guitars, so the term ES is for any Spanish style guitar not just hollow bodies. These guitars are very expensive, the 175 is probably the least expensive of the bunch at about $2500. The L5 or Super 400 would retail in the area of $8,000 to $10,000 depending on appointments. Remember these guitars are carved tops, and made from all solid woods. The L5 and Super 400 are really acoustic guitars with a floating pup usually mounted on the pickguard.
