Re: Gibson Les Paul BFG dilemma
I wanted to thank everyone again for their great advice and help concerning my query as to which pup to replace that crappy BB3 with. And I'm probably gonna get a lot of WTF tags and haw-haw's on this but I have installed a DimeBucker in the bridge. I know I said earlier that I wasn't crazy about how thin and crappy it sounded to me in my co-guitarist's Jackson Kelly (who also plays through a Randall solid state head, using a distortion pedal for his dirty tone) but I will briefly explain the scene. Yesterday, I was doing more research on SD pups and just for schits and giggles, I went on Craigslist to see if there was anyone selling SD pups and sure enough, there were many listed but not the Custom or Distortion. So anyway, some fellow that lived nearby my area (I live in Brownstown, MI which is 18 mins. downriver from downtown Detroit) and he was selling a like-new Dimebucker for $40. Everyone else were selling their used Invaders and Full Shreds for like $70-80, which is a rip off because that's how much they sell for new. So being on a very tight budget, I decided to take a chance and get the Dimebucker because I figured A: the price was affordable, B: anything is better than this piece of $hit BB3 and C: I could always replace it with another pup later when I get a bit more coin to get something else. Well long story short, I was very pleasantly surprised. It sounded great through the 6505+ and balanced well with the stock P-90 in the neck. I can't put my finger on why a Dimebucker sounded great in my Les Paul whereas my co-guitarist's DB sounded like a bag of unwashed ass in his Jackson but in any case, I am happy I gave it a go, especially with something I never would have considered trying in the first place. And for those that are dead set on dissing them, well, I guess it doesn't matter since I am quite happy with the sound and that's all the matters.
Thanks again, everyone!
