Gibson Les Paul DC Studio?

Hey everyone,

I think I have a guilty pleasure in loving this guitar! I went out to a store and there was a used one... black, 24 frets, covered humbuckers (stock), volume and tone and a 3 way, and a wrap around tail piece. rosewood fingerboard too. I went to play a 'real' les paul to see how they are... and to be honest they didn't do it for me, mostly the neck... almost all of the pauls there had really round necks, but my explorer has a relatively flat neck for a gibson and that is what I am used to ( I am sure it has something to do with that I shaved the paint off :cool2:).

This DC studio was cool though, the neck felt right to me, and the bridge pickup sounded pretty cool too... kinda honky in the mids which is different from what I have. Unfortunately the neck bucker wasn't working (hopefully just a 3 way or a wire problem) as when I went to that position it was VERY quiet and faint... bottom line is I am kinda gassin for this guitar, but I really can't find what it is worth! They are asking 400 which seems fair, but maybe I should offer 325 since that pickup isn't working?

The only mods I think I would do to it would be to swap the mags in the pickups (thanks blueman!) and change the pots to 500K and get rid of the tone in place of a second volume! Maybe better tuners and strap locks...

I almost won one of those on Ebay a month ago. cool guitars. I would upgrade the tailpiece with an adjustable saddle version from Tonepros and put in 500k pots. I was going to pay $500 shipped. $400 is reasonable - if the rest of the guitar is in great shape I'd snatch it up. I'd be dropping in Sd pups anyways.

So they make adjustable one piece tale pieces?

sure do:

I think I've seen it $10-15 cheaper but WD always has the largest stock (not sure if you would need chrome or nickel). costs about the same as a Tonepros bridge + tailpiece for a regular t-matic Gibson.

I think it's worth the investment, personally. With that bridge, 500k pots, and a pup mag swap, you'd have an amazing guitar for $500
