Gibson Les Paul faded or SG faded

Looking to use the Christmas gift cards and money already. Got it down between the 2. I have played them both a little, just not side by side. I wanna use it to cover mostly classic rock and blues. Anyone weigh in on pros and cons of each and offer their suggestion.

The faded models can be all over the place from a tone (wood quality) standpoint. If you have the opportunity to play before you buy I would strongly suggest the one which happens to come out better in that run.

It really boils down to which feels and sounds the best to you. Build quality will be the same, with specific examples varying in playability and fit & finish as uOpt mentioned. Head to your favorite retailer and play around with some until you find one that you can't leave without.

Play a few of each and don't get caught up on "oh this one is shaped like that"... play lots of Gibson-style guitars in that price range and buy the best one... there are tons of good deals in that field right now.

As another user stated, the faded models are a mixed bag when it comes to quality. And well, its a personal preference, I, myself you go with the Les Paul, probably because I'm used to playing Hamers etc, but its down to what feels right for you and which model feels best. And remember! As with any long term purchase, try the exact piece of gear before you buy!

One of my favorite guitars I have ever owned is my LP Standard Faded, it is a great guitar. Personally I like the faded finishes, some of the guitars they've put them on leave a lot to be desired but play a few I am sure you'll find one you dig. My bigger beef is with the more extreme neck angles Gibson seems to favor lately. They seem to vary from guitar to guitar as well, happy hunting.

Many years ago, a friend of mine entered our local guitar store and announced his intention to buy some kind of Les Paul before he left. In the interests of objectivity, the proprietor insisted on blindfolding my friend before handing him each guitar to try. The selection ranged from a Gibson 1990 Historic through a Standard, a couple of Studios (including the M3 Lite variant) and an Aria lookalike.

Despite expressing an overwhelming preference for Standards, my friend's ears and fingers led him to single out a Studio model. That is what he bought.

Update. As luck would have it, my local guitar store had one of each in stock, so I was able to play both side by side. Immediately I did not like the SG. Didn't like the way due to the cut that it sat on my leg while playing, and didnt sound as warm and full as the Les Paul. Plus, even better, the Les Paul is used and in mint condition and is only $499. So I ended up getting the one I wanted for almost $300 less.

Under five hundred for a pre-owned Lester? Let me guess. Dot inlays and no binding? Funnily enough, it will still sound like a Lester. (Same as my Junior Special.)

Nice find. Good way to start the new year.
This might be preaching to the choir .... if not ...
Gibson doesn't always do a great job setting up their guitars before they leave the factory.
If it isnt perfect for you, make that LP yours - get a good set up on that guitar.
You wont regret it.
