So reads the thread on a local forum.

This must be one of those Fibson guitars.

Re: Gibson Les Paul for sale $150

Looks like the Gary Moore model only with SD instead of Burstbuckers. I have yet to see anybody manufacture a copy of that model.

The case hide/lining colour combination is unusual. The asking price is either a typographical error or the guitar is stolen or, as you suggest, the guitar is a fake. Proceed with caution. Alternatively, think of it as a fair price for two SD buckers with a free guitar and case thrown in!

The plastic HB mounting surrounds are genuine Gibson. I now suspect that the neck/Rhythm pickup is a genuine Gibson. (Compare the shades of cream plastic. The bobbin on the SD bridge/Treble pickup is of a yellower hue than the mounting ring.)

WORST CASE SCENARIO - The majority of the guitar turns out to be fake. You are still getting $150's worth for those two pickups and the mountings.

Re: Gibson Les Paul for sale $150

I hope the price isn't mistyped or something, maybe it is $1500.
Anyway,it's a steal if you could get a Les Paul for $150,even if just for the pickups. :D

Re: Gibson Les Paul for sale $150

Just been on Google. Came up with this photograph. www.markmcguigan.com/.../IMG_2530.JPG

Let me guess. The vendor says mail order only. Payment by Western Union transfer. Blah, blah.

EDIT - The link above brings up a "no longer exists" error message. The image is still available to view by searching Google Images for Gary Moore Les Paul

Suffice it to say that Mark McGuigan is based in the UK. His website implies that the LP was sold a few years ago. Now, it appears to have mysteriously found its way to PR and lost nearly all of its resale value.

EDIT #2. D'oh! Why didn't I think of this before. Just right click on the OP photograph and look up Properties. :banghead:

I have *no idea* if the picture attached to the thread is the guitar itself or is just some random les paul.

I wouldnt even consider driving there if im not provided with more pictures. i dont want to get over there and have it be some copy or an epiphone.

No, it's local. it only has a phone number.

at $150, the seller is either lying or ignorant.

Told ya. Either the local list advertisement is a scam or you just got extremely lucky. (No points for guessing which is more likely.)

Same old adage. If it looks too good to be true, it almost certainly is. All of my seriously expensive musical equipment deals have been with reliable dealers, musicians that I have known for a long time or a handful of the good folks on this very forum.

IMAGINARY SCENARIO
You go to the vendor's address (or a car park!!!). He says, "Hand over the Dollars. I'll fetch the guitar over." You hand over the Dollars. The vendor nips away out of sight and the next thing you hear is squealing tyres as he ****s off in a fast car.

Alternatively, the "vendor" pulls a gun, takes your money and tells you to **** off.

Re: Gibson Les Paul for sale $150

Vintage Les Paul with maybe a new bridge pickup. The cutaway is too pointed for a Gibson

Re: Gibson Les Paul for sale $150
