Gibson Les Paul GT $2500

i like that a lot!

I wish companies were making more clean, elegant looks like this right now.

Not all of us want Kiesels, Mayones, and Strandbergs. I can barely stomach Caparison but that's because they grew out of Jackson Japan, where most of my guitars come from. Hard to want to spend 2k+ on a guitar that looks so conventional except for a can opener headstock.

Just kind of sick of direct mount, fixed bridge, fanned fret, slant pickup, 4x2 headstock, multiscale Strats in terrible colors. Seems to be all that's made since 2010 or so.

As if Kiesel does nothing but fancy stuff?

I love Carvin. My first real amp was an MTS3200 full stack I bought at the Hollywood store in 2000.

I'd take a 90s-00s Carvin over a Kiesel. Just liked the aesthetics better. Splitting the company was a huge mistake, IMO.

Also, not one of the guitars on this page speaks to me, especially at the price expected for them:

The custom builder is less robust than the pre-split one. The pointy shapes are awkward and chunky. Everything else is current trends of Strat or LP styles with elaborate finishes and colors favoring the showing of woodgrain.

I like mass produced Japanese guitars from 20-30 years ago after I put my own electronics in them better than what custom shops like Kiesel are offering me now at 2-3x times the price.

I don't like Jeff's taste as a luthier. They all look trendy and tacky instead of aggressive, sleek, and elegant.

For some reason things like this can't be built without reversing the headstock, or direct mounting the pickups, or making it some elaborate finish.

Unfortunately to get this kind of elegant simplicity I usually have to import from Japan via Ebay.

I'm glad they now have the Standard available in just plain black too.

I don't mind a well-done Tobacco burst. Or Darkburst. Or well, really, I can learn to tolerate them. But not every ****ing Les Paul has to be burst. Not all of us want to play dad rock.

When I first started getting interested in gear, the Les Paul Gothics were the rage. I sooooooo want a black Les Paul with no binding and black hardware.

Gibson makes and has made this guitar for years. It's called the Les Paul Studio.

As a millennial, I freaking love my burst Les Paul.

It's not the same thing.

I like cream binding and plastics.

I like a full body thickness.

I like the mother of pearl headstock inlay.

I like Studios alright. But these days, I'm looking at a Classic. I wouldn't say no to a Studio, though. I can tolerate a darkburst or a tobacco burst Standard. It's the clownbursts, washed out orange bursts, or the piss yellow tops like the Epiphone Greeny that I would never buy, personally.

I guess I'm a millenial too? I'm just not into Hair Metal, Dad Rock, Blues, Pop Rock, or those kinds of genres.

Don't forget a Boomer burst Les Paul for bro country and Nickelback. Because Metallica is old enough now that it's okay for grandparents to go to pop rock band shows and see something "heavy" like Sad But True played through Dual Recs.

Yeah, I was gonna lump Metallica into either Dad Rock or Pop Rock, LOL. They certainly didn't play boomerbursts before they became washed out greedy old farts.

But the Nickelback Les Paul is actually kinda cool. It's not burst. I wouldn't buy it because fuck Nickelback. But the guitar is not too horrible-looking. I think it's trans-black with a cool flamed top?

I dunno. I haven't followed them since their first album. Chad Kroeger with short hair is still new to me.

I just hate how they're sounding more like mainstream country, and mainstream country sounds more like them.

Plus Kid Rock (probably with Het's blessing) basically stole Sad But True and made it American Badass. And people paid money for it. Lazy.

I think I liked Bawitdaba when it was new and I was in high school or something. They had good guitar tones. But he got irritating as he got older.

I've heard like one Nickelback song, TBH.
