Gibson Les Paul GT $2500

I could care less what the color of the Les Paul someone uses to make a song if that song sounds good. Personally I like my Cherry Sunburst LP and could care less if someone thinks it, or my music, is an embodiment of "Dad-rock." In fact, I'd take that as a compliment as my Dad has pretty good taste in music, and what man wouldn't aspire to be a father? Who wants to be a genetic dead-end?

No desire to father here. Happily genetically dead ending as a way to ease unsustainable human population growth. That way we have more real estate to grow more mahogany, ebony, and maple trees with which we can build more cherry sunburst LPs.

Also no desire for cherry sunburst LPs. You can feel free to own the ones I would not have bought and am so generously and willfully surrendering. :)

Yeah, saying everyone should aspire to be a father is pretty old-school. No offense. It's cool that you want that. I kinda want that at some point too. But for the longest time, I didn't, and I know and respect lots of people who don't. Everyone can do whatever they want with their genes as long as you don't hurt anyone.

About cherry burst Les Pauls: You're entitled to play whatever you like. The problem that I find is for a while, Gibson only sold burst Les Paul Standards. That honestly stopped until like months ago. Well, "problem" for me. I just associate those kinds of guitars with music that I don't like.

It's not like I *need* to buy a Les Paul either. I'd just like there to be more options (like there are now) for us people who don't like bursts, but still like Les Paul Standards.

I don't think anyone in this thread was saying that people shouln't play or enjoy burst Les Pauls. I think it was more of an issue that we don't like or enjoy burst Les Pauls because of the music/attitude/whatever we associate them with that doesn't agree with our own views, and that it would be nice if there were other alternatives like the one in the OP. You may think it's ugly. I don't love it, personally. But we also think burst Les Pauls are kind of ugly, so it's all about POV.

Maybe I admire fatherhood because the happiest and most successful men I know are all dads. Probably because they're good at creating! ​​​​​​

​​​​​​Plus all the inventors of musical genres get called the Father or Godfather of X so that also makes it seem cool to me.

Give me all the burst Les Pauls and I will play nothing but Dad-rock and get rich doing it! ​​​

Dad rock is also a generational term.

I am late Gen X. Rex_Rocker is Gen Y.

Since our parents are (most likely) Boomers and Boomers tend to like classic rock from the 50s-70s, when a lot of cherry burst LPs were sold, that's where the term Dad rock comes from--as in, our parents' music, styles, tastes, etc.

Me? I like glossy black pointy things. My kids who will never exist would call my listening to Bathory's 1988 black metal opus "Blood, Fire, Death" to be Dad rock.

It's a relative thing.
 
No kids here, and no desire to own a burst LP, although I own a nice burst Howard Roberts.
 
I like it. It's got both class and attitude. Love the chrome and black, and the sublty of the flames. I'd rock that all day long. I have a $600 Studio, a $1400 Standard and a $4500 clown burst. I love them all. A Les Paul is a Les Paul. Some are better than others, but at each price point, just play a few until you find the magic one in that class.
 
I'm 6.2 & a bit over 200 lbs....(still on the lean-ish side) so I'll probably look like a tranny w/ moobs (nothing against tranny's though. ...no PC BS please. Some of my closest buddies are trannies)


Ok, maybe not, but I woud'nt care if they were :bigthumb:
