Hi guys i've noticed green day's billie joe armstrong is playing one anyone else tried one? Also how much do they run for? I think they are only available through the custom shop as well. Also i noticed on the gibson site they changed the enck on the junior to be rounded and not slim tapered anymore.

And to be honesting im GASing for one.....

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

JR's are killer guitars...and IMO using the fat "rounded"eck again is a GOOD thing! They sound nothing like a Les Paul...they have a think mid heavr growl that is hard to beat! I added a good Jr. to my want list a long time ago...It just has to wait!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

i think billie joe's lp jr.s are form the custom shop, but how much do they run for comming from the custom shop?

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

Outstanding R&R guitar! Kick it with an OD and plug it into a cranked 2204, you'll have grind to die for!

A young Wattage with his favorite guitar, God I miss that guitar. Only thing left is the pickup :17: Everyone should own at least one Junior. Good ones are not hard to find in any price range and there is something to be said for just playing a straight ahead ,simple, well made guitar. Oh yeah they kind of like to ROCK!!!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

theyre great guitars i had one that i got in my parents divorce a while back but i smashed it a while back in a fit of drunken rage. it can be fixed but ill let it rest for now
heavier sound than anything too with a marshall and a bassman with a big muff

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

well now that i know they ROCK! how much do they run for now as they are sold under the custom shop? im mght look into getting one if i have extra ash after i buy maybe a smaller amp like a 30 watter instead of a more expensive 100 watter.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

I like Juniors, so basic, but not a one trick guitar, as for custom shop prices, I'm guessing at least $1,500 probably more.

I found this on eBay - '59 LP Jr. - Might give you an idea...

*I think* they did both 1 pup and 2 pup (1 pup is Junior & 2 pup is Special?)

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

Billy's Jr.s are old for sure (look close at the cover of this months GW).

Wattage...Killer pic bro, I really love that the other guy has the total 80's Hammer going on, yet you keep it real, slab of mahogany, and a P-90...that's all you really need!

strat_master...some people are missing a major part of your question. Real 50's and 60's Jr's will bring quite a bit of cash...$2000-$4000 is not uncommon, them you get into double cuts, specials, etc...and custom shop Jr, are not much better if at all! Keep this in mind, the Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cutaway, is real slose to a double cutaway special (A Special is a 2 pickup Jr, and the double cutaway is self explanitory) and runs less that $700.00 new...it is a killer P-90 axe. Also, the new Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker, is very much a LP Jr...it just has a Melody Maker Headstock, these go for $450.00 new. These are 2 killer guitars, and the fact that they are so cheep is even better!!!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

When I went to Manny's in NYC a year or so ago, I saw (i think) two 57 Juniors going for about 3 Grand a piece.

Earlier I couldn't see the pic, but I see it now, made me chuckle too!

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

I didn't really like that Hamer but wth? He used to steal my LP Custom all the time anyway. The neck on that thing was terrible IMO and I hate locking trems. I do love Firebirds though

Look for mid to late 80's Jr's. They are a steal. Usually 2 piece mahogany bodies but they've dried out a bit by now. Stoptails with tune-o-matics so they intonate really well and all you have to to is drop in an SD P-90 and you are golden. All for about $600.

Now if you can afford the real deal or the new CS Jr's go for it. $2500 and up these days for nice old singlecut. I don't remember what the CS ones I played went for but the necks were huge and I didn't care too much for them becuase of that.

You can still find some NOS ones hanging on the shelf from a few years back and/or the new Melody Maker LP Jr's are great bang for the buck. Just need a pro setup and new tuners and you have a great little axe for peanuts.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

Leslie West had a killer LPJR sound back in the mountain days. Paul Westerberg also plays a JR................

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

I am also wondering didn't gibson put out the lp jr.s in their regular line a while back and discontinued them? is it possile there mgiht be a few lying around somewhere? At least they won't be at custom shop prices...thats crazy 2500 for a junior??!?! IM better off buying an LP standard with that kidna cash.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Jr. anyone played one?

Also my mistake Billie Joe's junior is an original, its very beat up as well, anyone notice that some of his fret markers have fallen off?!?! haha thats punk rock for ya
