Ok, so many of you saw my Crazy K thread. No big deal... in fact, it may have worked out because I started to think about other Kahler/Floyd guitars. I also started to think about getting a cheapy Floyd guitar, or looking for something of quality.

So, sort of unrelated, but last night I A/B'd my Gibson LP Classic against my Carvin Singlecut. Wow. No contest. The LP Classic was very nice and sounded good, but the Carvin SPARKLED. I love the SS frets and the guitar was easily twice as easy to play. I have a second Carvin (CS90) that is also very easy to play.

So, that led me to the thought that I should sell the LP Classic and pick up a Carvin CT or CS with a floyd. That would solve my floyd guitar GAS. What do you think? I think it is crazy, as I love the look of the Gibson, but I just don't think I will play it much with the CS around.

Plus, I could get $1300 - 1600 for the Gibson, probably find a Carvin for $1000 and would have $300 - 600 for a different guitar or other option.

Just looking for ideas and opinions here. Thanks for listening!

Sounds like a good idea to me.

I'll always pick playability over having a guitar just to have it.

Carvin doesn't get much cred and rep around the net'. That being said, they make prob the most undervalued/under-appreciated guitars out there. They make quality stuff.

If your more comfortable playing a Cravin and it sounds better in your ears, then by all means get rid of the LP. No sense of keeping a guitar for "namesake" if it's not going be in your top of the rotation.

Moreover, if you feel like you really need a "Gibson," pick up a good studio, then invest the rest in a new Carvin. Problem solved.

I'm a LP fan but I'll be the first to admit that just about anything else is more comfortable. Sure, I'll get used to my LPs and it'll take a little while to adjust to something else but it takes a LOT longer to get used to the LPs again. They're just not particularly ergonomic. Because of that, this won't make sense: to me, they just feel right.

Also: there's nothing more rock n roll than a Les Paul slung low. Nothing. I'm also willing to admit at least a little of it's the look. Else, we'd all just sit on stools on stage and stare at our hands while we play.

You should look Neil Zaza's collection of custom shop Carvin. Probably inspire you to make decision,as they look sharp.
Or you could go flying v if you still wanna have that Gibson logo on your headstock. :D

I vote sell the paul, and buy a used Agile or Epi LP (maybe even an LTD EC) with the leftover profit after you buy a carvin.

Do it. LPs are not for everyone. Their extreme popularity baffles me. I like 'em, but so many people are stuck to the idea that they are the be all and end of of electric guitars. I love 'em, but IMO they are really good at a handful of things. They are not great general-purpose guitars. SGs are much better as an all-around guitar IMO.

Yeah, that blue one rocks. What Living Dead said as well. I'm a Les Paul guy, always have been, but if a guitar has the mojo that I want, that's what I'd get. Carvins are fantastic guitars and so well worth the money.

I love Les Pauls, I own a faded studio myself and its a great guitar. But Ive played a few of those Classics and none of them have impressed me AT ALL. If you aint feeling it, get rid of it.

I've eyed Carvins before. Have played several. I like them a lot. That blue one is really nice. I like their singlecuts too.

I don't have anything bad to say about Carvin. I own two of their basses and I love them. I played countless guitars of theirs and loved the way all of them played. I'm not real keen on their pickups, but that's really about the only thing that I've never liked about them. Go for it!!

Carvins are great guitars.

I should add that I'm in the same position with a LP Classic. It's not the first LP I've owned, and they were all great LPs, and they are an icon, but...something else called me with the previous two, and the same is happening now.

Go for it.
