Re: Gibson Les Pauls: Reissues Vs Standards/Customs. Opinions please!

No other guitar making company had even the slightest of problems getting full-thinkness rosewood during that period.

Yes, because no-one else but Gibson was under investigation for illegal wood importing. Honestly, use some common sense here. They had to go to other channels than normal to get their wood, and they had restrictions on what they could source.
As an analogy, if you were on parole for an armed offense don't you think there would be a restriction put on you buying firearms??

There is no indication that any of the other guitar companies did anything wrong.

The logic here seems to be that just because Gibson broke the law everybody else must, too. Nothing, not even speculation or accusations, have been brought forward.

:smack: No other company did anything wrong - how on earth did you manage to read that into my last post....thats why they could still access rosewood just the same way they always had. My previous post was very clear - Gibson broke the law, Gibson had issue with wood supply afterward until such times as the action had been sorted. Thats why baked maple was used also - they couldn't get enough thin r/w to cover every model.

Other companies stop production when they run out of the materials they need and can't source them quickly enough.

.....and???

Once again, we are talking about no other company but Gibson here.......your continued misunderstanding and misdirection is starting to look like a smokescreen for avoiding discussing the real issue here - you were wrong about Gibson's motivation.

There is no indication that even gibson did anything wrong. Easy to tell, After the govt confiscated the wood and held it for 3 years.. .They gave it back. If it was illegally sourced it would be contraband and they WOULD NOT have given it back.

When drug dealers get caught do they give the drugs back? Do they give boot leg DVD"s back to the guys who smuggle them in? NO! The govt returned the wood cause legally they had nothing to stand on.

While some people claim some years were better years than others other people say every year is going to have their share of great ones and even dogs and not to worry about the supposed best year because the guitars are going to vary from guitar to guitar no matter the year. Having said that, a good guitar will be a good guitar no matter the year. When it comes to Historic Reissues if you want a neck with more shoulders look at 2008s and older and if you want a neck with less shoulders look at 2009s to current.
