Gibson lp -trad 2016

always SD

New member
hi
my local dealer had good prices for Gibson standard trad 2016
for me it was an impossible choice

i don't want the g force
i like the Axcess for the HP series
i don't know how to choose the pickups
and i want coil split and others

so, a standard hp without the robot tuners would be good: )

or a trad +options :) and i'd prefer a double cutaway standard limited edition

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

just take the robots off and sell them, that'll pay for standard tuners

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

The G-Force isn't really noticeable if you tune one string at a time (hold the button when turning on). The bigger thing may be that they do use the PCB electronics, which you can't customize the pots on without replacing the rest of the wiring.

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

The Burstbuckers aren't that hot either- they're bright and tend to be thin and icepicky- which would be good in a Les Paul that's naturally fat , dark and warm, but the Newer standards are bright in their own, and need alnico 2 based pickups to tame them. I've used the Duncan slash models, which warmed the guitar up quite a bit

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

and i don't understand why some people said this guitar is perfect and they change the pickups to SD pickups lol

second, i want to play rock n roll too that's why i don't understand why the Standard or trad
have just a c57+ or bb pro whereas the Custom has a 498t which is much better for rock n roll

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

so i don't really know if spending so much money will give me the tone i imagine
or not
i like vintage tones for the neck position but not so dark

and brightness, harmonics and sustain for the bridge position

i would mean John Sykes with his dirty fingers in the bridge position
and something for the blues and to shred in the neck position

like Knopfler has for brother in arms live for example (warm tone)

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

when i read the comments about the robots, i don't want that
i don't want to loose the intonation or bad tuning in every bends

after that the HP for the axcess to the highest frets is better so HP

after that, the pickups? i don't really know

and about the gibson standard double cutaway limited edition with bb pro too, i don't find it

it has not all the options: bypass, coil split but i can add a floyd rose frx

It's not "perfect", but the recent high end Les Pauls (Standards, Traditionals, Standard T's) are the best ones they've made on a consistent basis in years.

Why? The fretwork on these recent ones is the best I've ever seen on a stock Gibson. Honestly the neck on my 2015 feels extremely solid like my PRS.

The Burstbucker Pro's are VERY good, but my 2015 Standard with Burstbuckers sounded a little bright and thin compared to my 1986 Les Paul Custom with Duncan Slash pickups- so I custom ordered a 4 conductor Nickle covered Slash for the neck to try out, and it has that little bit more mojo that the Burstbucker was missing- a singing tone whereas the Burstbucker was a little thin and flat- so I just ordered a Bridge Slash for it. The Burstbuckers tend to make the Les Paul sound like a PRS singlecut, whereas the Duncan Slash make the Les Paul sound like you would expect a Les Paul to sound like

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

I don't recommend buying a guitar and then immediately changing a bunch of stuff. Live with the guitar awhile, as your opinion might change. Also, don't buy things you think you won't like. I'd keep searching for something I do like.

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

i like warm tones for the neck position : i think this why we want a LP
but not so dark
just warm

for the bridge positon i don't know but maybe the traditional would be good

after that, how is the les paul custom ? is it the best LP for the warm tone and sustain ?

my experience: i have an EPiphone lp pro fx but with all options
bypass, coil split, out of phase
and classic 57+ 498T + orange drop

the clean sounds are horrible but the guitar sounded fantastic with the floyd rose special
it sounded good but not now because the floyd rose special is very fragile or i was a beginner lol

so very good for the effects with the bar

the sounds are very fat, loud and it was great except the very bad clean tones

with my new lp studio floyd rose, it's the opposite: chambered
490R
498T
the floyd rose is really good but the springs must be different so much more tension (or not) vs floyd rose special
which
was easier to play
or to push
no need a lot of pressure of the hand vs real floyd rose original

about the sounds: the clean sounds are much better
sustain ok but i think it was better with the EPIphone and not really

so, my LP had a louder sound and hotter like what we could expect from a LP

so i won't buy a new LP is the sound is not really fat warm with a brightness too (because very dark is not so good)
but for a good test it only will be good with the good amp (not really a sl5 like they have or a ht1 )
and 2 Lp trad, standard, reissue and my guitar loll

From my experience, Les Pauls vary greatly with how dark/ warm and how bright they can be, so you have to try them out. In my case, I have a 1986 Les Paul Custom that's similar in construction to a Les Paul traditional with the 9 hole construction, and that guitar is warmer and darker than my 2015 Standard, with modern weight relief, AND titanium bridge saddles and nut, making the guitar brighter. Brighter Burstbucker Pro's would probably work well in my old Custom or Les Paul Traditional, but are too bright in the 2015 Standard, so I needed warmer Alnico 2 based pickups to warm it up.

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

i want to they that if we spend a lot of money to buy a Standard
if one buys a LP standard while A custom or R9 is better

i don't know if buying a Standard
is worth being bought

the neck pickup must not be too bright for the Standard but for the bridge pickup
i don't know because i have not this guitar

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

Have you actually ever thought of trying one of these guitars out. Seems like a logical thing to do really. I mean its practically useless to continually ask someone elses opinion of whether a pickup tone is warm, bright, mud, dark etc.

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

I think a lot of these questions can be solved with playing the guitar. If you don't have one around, ask any local friends, or buy one with a generous return policy.

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

I think you'd be best trying some and then swapping pups after that. Plain vanilla answer but...

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

i don't know how to change the pickups
so i prefer not to pay a luthier for that

but if Gibson had a lot doug aldrich pickups or
bare knuckles
it will be solution
