Gibson lp -trad 2016

Re: Gibson lp -trad 2016

What Mincer said about living with the guitar a bit is good advice. I recently picked up a new 2016 50s Trib model. Love the guitar, but I assumed the pups would come out, because they are the much maligned 490 and 498 pups. As it turns out, I like them. Maybe a little hotter than I prefer, but I am pretty happy.

I guess I might have decided that they sucked, and put something else in, but the lesson for me was to live with it to find out. And, down the road they still may get switched out, but at that point I will have been able to put in the time required to really explore the pups that came with the guitar.

Good luck in your search!

too many hesitations even if i can have a good price

the burstbuckers pro lead would be very trebly ?
not so good ?

and not really vintage for the neck pickup ?

i have a LP studio it sounds dark
but the pups give a warm tone

the thing is, both a standard with burst bucker pros or a traditional with 57's are going to sound very good stock. Down the road, you may try something else (I put a set of Seth Lovers in my standard for a change) but either guitar is perfectly good stock

I still think that before you drop a lot of $$ on a guitar, go in with the idea that you love everything about it. Things may change down the road, but if you are thinking of swapping out much of what you are paying for, it might not be the right guitar.

I own a 2010 LP Traditional, for which I researched a lot before I bought it. It's my most expensive guitar, so, as Mincer noted, I made sure it met my expectations. As a matter of fact, I sold a LTD EC-1000 to help fund the purchase, since I really wanted a LP-style guitar, as traditionally spec'ed as my budget allowed. I already new the pickups that it came stock with were a love/hate affair (Classic +57 set), but although I own eight other electric guitars, all loaded with Duncans, I actually love the stock pickups.

Actually, research it's the key featured when gear is concerned, and the gear you choose should meet the sound concept in your head (sounds dumb, I know, but it works for me). So, try the gear yourself whenever you can, and if you can't try the "leap of faith" approach.

If it doesn't work, you always have the store return policy (if applicable), or, as the last resort, internet classifieds (Ebay, etc.) so that any ill-fated investment isn't a complete loss.
