They are slightly larger in length and width than a Strat pickup, use a bar magnet (A5?) thru the coil, and have a beefier tone than similar Fender SC's. They were also used in the Kalamazoo models (mostly white covers vs. the MM brown) and some budget archtops and lap steels. I have no experience with the SD version, but I think it's wound slightly hotter than most of the original Gibson models. I love 'em and I have a few Strat pickguards routed for them...
