Gibson Melody Maker pickups

Does anyone have any experience with them? How do the cover dimensions differ from a Strat single coil? Are the Duncan custom shop pickups significantly different from the stock Gibson pickups?

Re: Gibson Melody Maker pickups

If I recall correctly the pickups are slightly smaller than strat pickups...don't know much else about them though.

Re: Gibson Melody Maker pickups

They are slightly larger in length and width than a Strat pickup, use a bar magnet (A5?) thru the coil, and have a beefier tone than similar Fender SC's. They were also used in the Kalamazoo models (mostly white covers vs. the MM brown) and some budget archtops and lap steels. I have no experience with the SD version, but I think it's wound slightly hotter than most of the original Gibson models. I love 'em and I have a few Strat pickguards routed for them...

If I recall correctly, they're also mounted with brass "legs" (like a humbucker) rather than having the screw go through the cover and base.
