Hi guys, im wondering has anyone tired out the new gibson melody makers? Are they any good? They seem relatively cheap (im talking about price) and wonder if they compare well to the disconintued LP juniors? they both use the same pick ups but what else is different? I really like that P 90 sounds green day has going these days and ocnei get a tube amp i plan on geting a p90 guitar hopefully to maych that sound. But ir eally wnat a gibson sooo... i figure go meldoy maker, but how do they compare to the LP juniors? Personally i like the look ofr the juniors more. But dont they cost an arm and a leg now? If i rmeber some people on this forum have a melody maker and a junior if im right? Also i noticed on the igbson site the melody makers have a cedar or equivalant neck? whats that even mean?!?

thanks in advance guys.

Re: Gibson Melody Maker

Ceder? That doesn't sound right. Last weekend I was at long and mcquades and tried side by side some SG with P94s and a melody maker... I figured that both had mahogany bodies and mahogany necks so I pretty much comparing the pickups and prefered the P94s since they seemed to have a meaner sound, but if the MM's have ceder necks then that would do it as well. But for $700 Canadian I just don't see what the point is. You're missing the neck humbucker and the neck pocket is pretty shallow.

Hate to say this, but for that much money.... why not go warmoth? You could get a korina neck and korina body, as many pickups as you want of any make, and the fret job would probably be a lot better than the usual of lower end gibson guitars? There are also Epiphones out there with maple necks and mahogany bodies (if you can find one with a mahogany neck, they're out there but I don't see them too often). Maple has to be a better neck wood than ceder.

hmmm what long and macquade were you at by chance? i live in toronto. Do they still sell the gibson LP junior but NOT at the custom shop level or price?

Re: Gibson Melody Maker

I found a used epiphone lp junior at Guitar Center for $100. It was sunburst and I've been wanting one like that for so long. It needed some work but nothing major. I really thinking about seeing if they still have it and somehow get $100.

Re: Gibson Melody Maker

tried one a few months ago when I bought my schecter... loved it. I liked the raw feel of the body and neck, it all felt perfect to me. Loved the look, it was a black one. Loved the pickup, this guitar made me fall in love with p90s. $400, if I had $100 more in my bank account at the time, I would have bought it. Great deal, considering its a "real" gibson and is about 3 times cheaper than most stuff they make, even though it only has one pickup. Which is really the only thing I have to complain about.
