I've been jonesing for a 339, but I'd like to compare these. Very interesting idea.

As for the artificial fretboard, I have a Martin D16 with the same thing, and I like the feel of it, so that's no deal breaker for me.

They're listed as 2300, so the real price must be, what, 16-1700?

The photo pretty much shows it. The f holes are not simply cosmetic "routs" in the guitar, cut straight down into the mahogany. They are cut in the top wood only, and go through to a larger interior chamber. Whether there are two chambers separated by an intact center chunk, or whether there are only center chunks remaining to support the neck pocket and bridge/tailpiece (like a Wildkat), I do not know.

Sorry, I guess maybe there's a language barrier. I'll tell you what I know about the Midtown's construction and maybe I'll happen to cover what you're asking about.

The F-Holes themselves are cut into the top, which is made of maple. That top is glued over a mahogany body, which Gibson says has been "strategically chambered." I don't know the pattern of that chambering, nor how extensive it is, but most places seem to be categorizing this as a semi-hollow guitar, and photos I've seen seem to make it clear that the areas underneath the F-holes are hollow.

So are the f-holes cut into mahogany? No. They're cut into the map top.

Are the wings hollow? Maybe. It's hard to tell how big the chambers underneath the f-holes are, so I'm not positive that the entire wing is hollow.

Is the center of the body solid? Probably, but I can't say for sure. I'd be very surprised if there was chambering through the middle, but who knows what Gibson considers "strategic."

Does that hit on the issue you were asking about?

I have to mention tho that not everyone wants a smaller body - in fact the larger body is a lot of the reason i swapped my bluesbird for a 335. Nor do all players want a les paul.

+1. I like that 16" lower bout on 335's. Of course, being a big guy (6'5'') it doesn't feel bulky to me. Until I played one, I never would have believed how comfortable they are.

Now, as far as 'Nor do all players want a Les Paul', yes, sad but true.

I was curious about these, so I went to Long and McCuade yesterday. They price out at around 1500. That is a pretty good price, new with case. I'd love to hear what it sounds like, because at that price you're pretty close to the cost of fully modding a MIK or MIC copy (pickups, electronics, tuners and other hardware). Plus, it would be neat to have something a bit unique.

It's basically a 355 with 300K volume pots(those would have to go). Looks pretty cool though. Every guitar I have played with humbuckers that have 300K pots sound stifled a bit. I bout a LP studio from Mike(Xssive), he had already done what I would have which was change the pots. Once that was done it opened up the whole guitar.

Reading more into it, if I just didn't purchase a Gibson semi-hollow, I might be tempted. For 500$ more though, I'm digging the 339 more on paper. If I didn't have my LP though, I might look into it, considering I always roll with 2 guitars for shows.
