Gibson - new products

Re: Gibson - new products

The only thing that bothers me about the tribal V is the lack of a locking nut, other than that it looks pretty sweet...

The Zakk V is ok, but I don´t like the bullseye on a V...

The wilshire is one of those classic gibson things that ya either love or hate....

And the Carved top SG actualy looks pretty nice for a change, normally I find flame on an SG tacky...

Re: Gibson - new products

meh.

Gibson seems to be trying, but continues to come up short.

Tribal grahpics? C'mon now, I thought that went out of style 10 years ago. Nice touch with the Kahler tho.

Zakk Wylde graphics? Who's buying these? What kinda of dirt does Zakk have on Gibson that they'll build any dumb idea he's got and stick his lame graphic on it?

The SG is nice, but fails becuz of the lack of control knobs, neck binding and high price. Put that color flametop on an LP and its a completely different story. That color would be tuff on an LP.

Re: Gibson - new products

The Zakk V is sweet minus the bulls eye, V's with block inlays and headstock bindings look awesome

Re: Gibson - new products

I didn't like the carved top SG when it first came out (in platinum or whatever awkward colour it was) but it looks alright in that, seems like it would look better in person than in photos actually. Overall I think they're improving their product line.

Re: Gibson - new products

So the tribal v is just a repainted version of the guitar of the month? lol...

Re: Gibson - new products

They still didnt put a locking nut on there. I wanted one of the guitar of the week explorers with the kahler (even wanted one of the Vs) but they didnt use a locking nut and I heard they were awful to try to keep in tune if you dare touch the bar..
Why overlook such a small detail?

The Tribal V has locking tuners which *should* stay in tune fine provided that the nut is set up properly. My Charvel Model 4 mutt has a Kahler 2300 and locking Sperzels with no locknut and it stays in tune when using the bar. Of course the nut wasn't set up by a drunken monkey which is who I hear Gibson has been using lately.

Are you kidding me Gibson? Really are you serious? BC Rich just called and want their crappy tribal graphics back!

Way to market a Limited Run Series restricted to just 350 guitars to trailer trash that can’t afford your Stupid markups. "The Gibson Tribal V" Coming soon to the musiciansfriend.com clearance section soon!

That happened to you Gibson? When did you become completely out of touch with what your Players/Owners want?

Re: Gibson - new products

They did Flying Vs with black/white stencil graphics and Kahlers in the 80s which were called the Designer Series. It's the only thing that I'd consider playing from Gibson's entire lineup but I still wouldn't buy one. Bloc inlays and binding, and I'd buy one.

Wtf? 7k for that piece of crap(Zakk Wylde V)?

The custom shop makes better guitars like the cs-356 or the reissue LPs. I'd rather pay 7k for a aged cloud 9 LP which would be 2k less if it weren't "aged". Who's the moron that said ok to the flying Vs .... he needs a long session of :smash: and a little of this :butkick:

Re: Gibson - new products

Why is it that when people see Gibson's MSRP, they automatically assume it equates to or is anywhere near street or MAP?

I know the difference, however, I also know that when the MSRP is 5-7 grand, the street price is still going to be out of reach.. I was looking at the Explorer. Unchanged in how many years? But the MSRP has gone up and up. Its like 2399. That fugly Zakk wylde sg/v mutant is listed for over 5 THOUSAND dollars.. The dean one is like $800 and probably better quality.

And what REALLY gets me is the listings for thier guitars.. In the new musicians friend catalog, they talk about the silverburst being reissued so that collectors can have one since the originals were hard to get and many complained they were missing them in their collections. NOT one word about it being playable.. You'd think they would at least add a last sentence and say: And these arent just for collectors, they play sweet too... But no..They are only catering to collectors now. This is the common trend in their writeups..

Pretty soon they arent going to go thru dealers. They will be availabile only thru the Franklin Mint or something.
