Gibson PAF?...Need help

After getting my Les Paul out and cleaning it up, I got curious about the pickups in it. I bought the LPS new in 78 and it had an uncovered pickup in the Bridge and a covered one in the neck. All these years I never paid it much mind unitl I found this site.
I pulled it (the bridge pickup) out on the base plate it reads: PAT NO 2737842. Its uncovered and has 12 brass(?) screws and a "T" on each bobbin. Anyone got any idea what this is?

Thats a "T-Top"

becoming quite collectable these days as I understand it ...

It's a low output PAF style...little brighter/glassier than a vintage "PAF"

great pickup...keep it!

I couldn't remember what the guy at the music store called it. I though that it was supposed to be some kind of a "Hot" pickup, but I knew even less then than I do now!
I wish forums like this were around back then.
I'll do a search on the site, and see what I can dig up on it. (This site is going to be a gold mine of info for me!)

When I say "low" I mean...compared to say , a Duncan Distortion or such. I think they are plenty hot, really.

I've heard that they were just a Dirty Fingers with an Alnico magnet (or vice versa)...but I don't know for certain. And actually I guess thats quite possibly what you have too. Which also will fetch a pretty penny these days. I had an Explorer with the DF's and couldn't stand them...I know of only one guy who ever used them and got great tones....John Sykes. I swapped them out for Custom & a 59 and that axe came alive. Perhpas nowadys I'd like them better...or maybe in a Les Paul like John plays... :shrug:

Know that you mentioned the name (Dirty Fingers) that quit possibly be the name he called it (27 years ago is along time to remember). I was more excited about getting a Les Paul than thinking about what pickups it had in it. Man times have changed!!!

Pat # T tops are cool pickups.

If you want some fun, look up that patent number.
