Gibson Pickup Height PSA

Re: Gibson Pickup Height PSA

FWIW, here is a pic of the current setup on my '04 Standard. In the past, using different amps and playing slightly different music, I have run these pickups (the stock Burstbucker V's) even lower, like in the second pic.

Lovely finish on that guitar. I’m glad to see that neck pickup so low. At first I thought mine looked kind of weird.

Just think, if we had vintage mounting rings the pickup wouldn’t pop up past them!

Re: Gibson Pickup Height PSA

Been saying for years....

1. Start at factory "Spec" - which with Gibson, is likely NOT how it came from the factory!

2. Arc the poles appropriately.

3. Adjust globally bass/treble height

4. Tweek poles again

Now - I'm assuming a mild or moderate output PAF and clean sound is the goal. With a HOT pickup...Distortion, SD, X2N etc....I generally agree that a little LOWER than spec is what will really give you what you want.

As highs possible is something invented by people without ultra hot pickups to drive as much signal to a preamp as possible. And it also kills sustain and adds weird wolf-tones and harmonics and crap. Worst thing ever.

And Astro - I'm sure I said that 10 years ago AT LEAST....so not sure what made the sudden impression. I'll chalk it up to age and wisdom on your part.
