I'm trying to decide between a really nice VOS and a regular model '58 plaintops. Both were offered to me at the same price. Both gorgeous.

To be honest, I much prefer his Lado Earth guitars from that period. Yeeaaah!

That Goldtop was his first 'proper' guitar he ever bought, and apparently, he used it in the studio on the Brave New World album in 2000.

I really think he had two Goldtops or messed aound with it alot...

I've got pics frm the Killers era of that Goldtop with 2 DiMarzio P90 sized SuperDs...then there are the later pics like the one I posted where it's been routed for a full size bridge SuperD, and has the mini back in the neck.

The Lado's were def way cool, but they were much thinner sounding with the Floyds compared to his Paul, SG, and Destroyer.

Howzat? The SuperD P90's came out in '03.

you're thinking of the singlecoil Size SuperDs...

P90 versions have been out since the late 70s.

No no, I waited forever to get rail SuperD's and they finally came out the end of '05. That's a great pic BTW but are you certain they are D's? They do look like 'em.

Thats a goof on their website...it used to say something else....now it says 2003.

If you listen/watch live at the rainbow (killers)..you can see/hear 'em in action...DEF a SuperD

I dunno 'cuz I have the '03 press release/review in Guitar World that sez it's new... "due to the great reception for the P90 Tone Zone..." blah blah or whatever it was. Maybe it's production vs. Custom/Artist order?

Live at Rainbow, was that Smith's solo band? I remember a clip on the IM Aniv. video I have somewhere around here. The video starts with Harris in a pub.

It could be a custom thing..if you go by the dates on the DiMarzio site than it means that NO P90 buckers existed before 1988...maybe they pulled em from production for awhile? don' know..he's not the only person I've seen with them tho (from back in the day)

Yeah but that's the Deluxe with the mini's, where can I hear the one with those p90's?!

maybe you've misunderstood me?...it's a P90 sized Super D...when you pull the mini and the pup ring, the pup rout is the same size as a P90...he pulled the minis & rings and put those p90 sized supers in...then put the neck mini and ring back in at some point, then pulled the P90 size SuperD in the bridge and had it routed for a full size bucker.

EDIT: if you look closely you will see the black P90SD in the bridge position on that clip.
