A little research shows that Gibson used Alder for bodies on the Studio Custom in the early 80's and it got a Custom neck put on it. Probably a Monday morning hangover mistake that got it cut up and tossed in the dumpster. Because Shredless found it for sale and salvaged it he now has a very unique and useful instrument. I'd love to have one in black or red w/gold hardware and a 59/Custom pickup. I would want a tone control also.
Always loved this design. Never understood why Gibson doesn't make more simple variations, yet every year produces some new disaster, tiger eye, virtual firebird, etc.
