Gibson-scale Strat neck - fits normal Strat body?

I have a 1985 MIJ Squier Strat that is simply the best playing guitar I have. The neck fits into my hand like a glove and I can rip through my usual wanking cleanly.

I didn't realize until I had the guitar for a few weeks that the scale is actually 24-3/4". When I got the guitar the first thing I noticed was that it looked small. Everything did. The headstock, the body, the size of the guitar. Found out that they indeed made guitars with the 24-3/4" scale, and I've read that the rest of the guitar was scaled as well. I can't prove that atm, as I don't have another Strat.

I have a line on another neck and was wondering if I can simply use a standard Strat body.

I know Warmoth makes necks that they call "conversion" necks that give you a 24-3/4" scale, that you attach to a standard Strat (or other) body.

Anyone know if this should be the case for any neck that is 24-3/4"?

I'll do pocket measurements tonight, and will measure the neck pocket to the bridge, to compare with a regular Strat body (hopefully someone can provide such a measurement, or I should be able to find it online somewhere).

Without knowing some accurate dimensions on the neck, and the neck pocket/bridge locations on the body its impossible to say. Wild guess is that everything's different than a std strat and the Warmoth conversion neck would not work in that case.

Hmm. That would be too bad. It would mean if I got the neck, I'd have to make a body to fit it, unless I find another 80's MIJ Strat body as well ...

I'll take some measurements tonight.

Thanks DarkMatter.

Warmoth's scale converter necks are designed specifically to work on a regular 25.5" scale Fender Stratocaster or replica. The fingerboard overhang takes care of everything.

On a guitar built as 24.75" scale, the neck pocket and pickup routs will all be that little bit nearer to the bridge.

I doubt the neck is interchangeable with a regular Strat. The neck pockets are probably located in different spots in relation to the bridges.

I have a Godin G4000 that is basically a Strat, but with the Gibson scale length. I was blown away when I first played it. It sounds awesome, and feels great. (I have wide hands, but short fingers.) So I understand the appeal.

Conversion necks are the way to go if you want to do this. Or you can order a body with no neck pocket, and then rout your own pocket in the right spot for Gibson scale.

Jackson and Charvel have the Fusion (fusing a Gibson scale in a strat) models. Just get one of those. I have several.

I've got one of those 24 3/4" scale MIJ Squiers. I don't think the necks are interchangeable.

Great guitar but when I want to hear humbuckers I play my ES-335. I'd like to sell it.

Your MIJ Squier is a 7/8 scale? Warmoth has 7/8 necks & bodies. Necks are 24-3/4".
