Gibson SG Special 3 - Gibson's Strat ?

Re: Gibson SG Special 3 - Gibson's Strat ?

I don't remember much about those Gibson single coils that come stock other than that they are extremely hot. I don't see the point of replacing them with single coil sized humbuckers though, you might as well just get a normal SG.

Is it just the neck shape and feel of the neck or the overall vibe? If you are really looking for that strat tone maybe built a strat "like" guitar from USACG or Warmouth with a neck shape that feels right for your hands... that way you have the REAL strat tone and a shape and playability that suits your needs...

Re: Gibson SG Special 3 - Gibson's Strat ?

i have no experience with Seths but i'm thinkin of trying one to go in the neck of my HxH Strat with a CC in the bridge.

If you want jangly, clean single coil tones you should get a Jaguar or a Tele...a Nashville Tele has a Strat middle pickup, that'd work perfectly.

if you want an SG you should use it for the big, heavy, crunchy sounds they are reputed for.

no sense tryin to apple juice out of an orange when orange juice tastes so good anyway.

Believe it or not, it is more the body-shape and contours that i can not come to grip with !
There is a 2xS/C + 1xhumb', Strat-like lay out in the Parker series of guitars that is fine, but a tad to much money !!!

http://www.parkerguitars.com/code/models/models_nitefly_sa_intro.asp - kinda strat-like

http://www.maldenguitars.com/utopia.htm - even this is much better !

Yeah parkers are pretty expensive but yet, so tempting regardless... yeah they were a tad bit out of my range when I put my Carvin on order too... but I sure drooled over them regardless ;)....

Never heard of Malden, good looking instrument though... seems reasonably priced and I like the tele "like" head stock on the duo sonic body style... wonder how they play...

Re: Gibson SG Special 3 - Gibson's Strat ?

here in the netherlands that guitar is quite popular by the way.

it wont give you strat-tones, because the pickups are humbuckers, and unsplitable. split them and you can come very close to a strat

Is that so? Haven't seen a single one around here. Wasn't this a guitar of the week axe? I know dutch kids love the cheap Gibsons, myself included :p
