Gibson Sg standard marked down to $1199 at AMS

I was surfing AMS and saw this and figured it was a blem model but it is for new ebony or cherry Sg standards

there was a thread about a week ago on TGP about this. Apparently a few Gibson models have been marked down. Of course, not the most popular ones

I got an email from gibson.. They have lowered the price on the SG standard, Special and I think, Faded..

I never understood the standard being over $2k.. there is nothing to it. No laminated or figured top or anything..

I would, like a Black Special if I had some $$

hah i'm thinkin i'd like an SG Standard in black in ADDITION TO (not instead of) my green SG-X...y'know for dressy occasions, or times when the green will clash with my shirt.......

technically it should be less money than the V and Explorer models, as it a smaller piece of wood, but it isn't.

We'll see more of this. The economy is still in the crapper, and those price increases at the beginning of the year were pure stupidity. Guitars are purchased with disposable income, and that's in short supply now.

you're right -- i was thinking of the American Deluxe models.

STILL -- that's an SG for about $100 less than a Strat. Think about that.

man the only thing i don't like about gibson standard models is the paint, my hands stick to it like glue. of course i could always steel-wool it to satin, but how much do ya think that'd drop the value?! otherwise i'd love one of those black standards! wish i could afford one right now....

it could always be buffed back up to a high sheen with ease, and bump that resale value back up. Win win.
