Gibson SG1

I got my hands on a '92, I presume, Gibson SG that has "1" on the truss rod cover. I take it that it's an SG1 but it doesn't look like any other SG1 I've seen as it doesn't have the tone knob or the switch.

Any idea what it is exactly? Specs, model history, etc... Maybe even the price these days as I got it in a trade and I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not. It plays well and sounds good but I kind of miss the neck pickup and extra knobs.

pictures!

Sorry, nothing worthwhile to take pictures on around here. She is quite a looker, though. I've always loved black guitars with gold hardware, even if she's the first such one I have.

If looks can help in identifying:

-Black colour
-Gold hardware, gotoh and german
-24 very big frets, dot markers, no binding
-single bridge humbucker, only a vol knob

Re: Gibson SG1

Ahhhh, the SG1. The ultimate rock guitar in my book. Same as my SG X 'cept for mine has the coil tap and tone knob. I wish gibson would make more straight forward guitars like these.

Re: Gibson SG1

I haven't seen an SG1 for years. I thought they only made them in the 80s

Re: Gibson SG1

@PoorMan. The original SG I was made from '72-'77. Had a mini humbucker, although some came with an SG Jr. type P-90. The later SG I was part of Gibson's All American Series, and made from '95-'98(renamed the SG-X in '98) Gibson's line of affordable, no frills guitars, which included a Les Paul as well. The SG I came with, 24 frets, a single 500T ceramic magnet humbucker, volume, tone and and a coil split mini switch. They are awesome little guitars, a little tough to play in the upper frets if you have big hands. I changed my 500T to a SD Alnico Pro II bridge humbucker for a little more warmth, the 500T was a bit much for me, but I still have it. Gibson had some finish problems with some of these. The finish would chip off on the edges or around the input jack or the finish on the necks would get gummy. I had to have my neck refinished. Beauty now. you can Google some info on them or a Gibson history book will have the skinny on them.
