Gibson Smart Wood Les Pauls

Re: Gibson Smart Wood Les Pauls

They were also about 1/4" thinner than standard depth, like some of the older Studios.

And all wood is renewable as long as there are seeds for it.

I think it was more that these were from certified forests that were not destroying habitats every time they were harvested.

Re: Gibson Smart Wood Les Pauls

There were two flavors of smartwood if I recall correctly. The first was exotic Rainforest stuff: Muir, Tapavwara Guasu, Banara, Peroba, etc....Cool looking - but variable sounding. Thinner than a regular paul. Only the top was fancy wood. Back/neck was mahog. Fingerbords were all...Curapay?????

Exactly! And they made guitars of Mambojambo, Gibbopapajamamarama, Twahngobuharajungaparafa and - the best, ever - Ampuhadistorta Chungalunga :headbang::headbang::headbang:
