see - I totally disagree here:
#1 Standard will hold value...are you gonna play it or is it an investment? A Jimmy Page Reissue or R9 or whatever will hold it's value better than either!

#2 Better wood? Gibson QA - you hope....wodd is as good as it sounds!

#3 Pups? Like we don't replace those anyway? assumes you like Burstbuckers....what if you're into EMG's?

Used standard is a better value than a NEW studio....but if you'll get a used std, a used studio is an even bigger value!

My understanding is the Studios come with the 490/498 pickups, whereas the current standards come with burstbuckers....The older Standard came 490/498.

The only studio that comes with burstbuckers is the Vintage Mahogany, which is a special order through Guitar Center/Musicians friend

My buddy has been buying different model Les Pauls off ebay over the past half year in order to find the best bang for his buck, and then unloading the ones he doesn't like for one reason or another. He had a Double Cutaway, Studio, and a Standrad all at the same time so I got to use him as a guinea pig in order to make my own future purchasing decision. Bottom line is none of them had the same mojo going on in tone as the Standard. The studio was lighter (I think it was actually thinner), didn't feel "expensive" when playing it like his Standard does (neck and frets just didn't feel the same), had an un-adjustable intonation issue on the high E string and the strings didn't line up properly over the pole pieces in the pickups (compared it to his Standard and the nut was cut too far "in."). Although I'm a fan of most Gibson pups, I truly hate the 498 that was in the bridge of this thing too, but pups can always be changed... the other issues are not fixable. Needless to say it went back on ebay along with the DC... the Standard is the keeper, I'm jealous and want one.
