I was in the local shop today . I was playing (Kinda) the supreme and the Superpro The hamer sounder better but, I think I like the Gibson body better. I also like the Hamer Studio Artist but I haven't heard one yet.

Anyone have opinions?

Re: Gibson Supreme or Hamer Superpro or

That's a tough decision, but for the money, you can never go wrong with a USA Hamer. The Studio is nice. You would like it too.

Re: Gibson Supreme or Hamer Superpro or

Well you will know where my bias would be would'nt you. Yes the US Hamers are very good guitars. The Superpro you will like and will give you all those nice deep jazzy tones, plays also very well acoustically. I know Lew has still got one and changed the pups in them and one of these days I will also do on my one.

I am a bit puzzled as to the Hamer Studio Artist? - I have not come across one of these either are you thinking about the Artist Custom instead?

Re: Gibson Supreme or Hamer Superpro or

I haven't played the Hamers but the Supremes are beautiful and very cool sounding. A little too fancy for my tastes (I gravitate towards cheap and trashy) but a cool cross of an LP and a 335.

It looks just like a Studio but it is hollow on one side with one F cut.

Yep...the Hamer Monoco Super Pro is the only one of the seven Hamers I once owned that I held onto. It's the best guitar with humbuckers that I own. I like it every bit as much as my 59 Les Paul RI with the Tom Holmes pickups. I didn't care for the Custom Hamer used as a neck pickup and switched it for a Seth Lover. And I put an aluminum stop tailpiece on it. Other than that, it's stock. A wonderful guitar...that's the one I'd recommend of those you mentioned. I had two...the pic is of the one I sold. Lew

In that case it is an Artist. Mine is the Artist Custom has the double-cutaway body configuration, with a finely-tuned sound chamber, crown inlays, an "f hole' port and vintage Duncan Seth Lover pickups. I love it and it does have some really good sounds - its one of my gigging guitars. See picture below:

Have to agree with Lew on the pup @ neck the Custom just does not do it and the Seth Lovers are very good - one of these days I am going to get it changed!.

That is the one I was thinking of. I was not aware that it had a big body. I though it was the same size as the studio I have never seen one in person. In photos it looks like a small body. In that case it would be the superpro.

Lew
I remember my heart dropping out of me when you sold that superpro I was "fixn" to jump on it but I hessitated. Oh well :smack:

Thanks for the help Guys

I am posting a couple of links which shows the pics of my Artist Custom against the Custom Studio and also against the Monaco SuperPro - sorry but these pics were taken very quick. The Studio and Artist are similar in body size and the SuperPro is bigger than the Artist. Just so that you have an idea.

The first one has the Studio Custom on the left and the Artist Custom on the right:

Thanks for all your help.

I thought it was something like that. I was thinking the artist was just a hollowed out studio I can see that it is not. I like the fact that the Artist is slightly smaller than the superpro. Now It seems like the artist has a slimmer neck than the superpro.

I will have to get my hands on one

If the Hamer sounded better...get the Hamer. The Super Pro has a 25 1/2" scale and the Artist has the same scale as a Les Paul...24 3/4" I think. Check Ebay...I see 'em on there all the time. Lew

You will find that it is smaller in body size to the SuperPro but the neck is very nice to play, not thin. Try and get one with the Seth Lover pups in them as they should be stock. In terms of body weight the SuperPro is slightly heavier but not as heavy as an LP. They both sound great unplugged. Just a slight warning on my Artist Custom I found that the 1st string kept coming off if I did any bends up/down and came off the neck. The problem was the nut was not correctly installed and I had to get a new one done, otherwise everything was fine. Just be wary of that. Totally agree with Lew get the Hamer. Am I right that you used to have Hamers?

The SuperPro has the 25 1/2" scale and the Artist has the same scale as an LP 24 3/4" but it is so comfortable to play and very easy to adapt.

Re: Gibson Supreme or Hamer Superpro or

I prefer the longer scale and chambered body of the Super Pro. Same scale as my Tele and Strat so I'm used to it. Didn't take any getting used to for me. I have to work at getting used to my Les Paul...that 24 3/4" scale feels short. Those Hamer Artists are beautiful guitars and get rave reviews. I think they're the prettiest of all the Hamers too. Yeah well done I am sure that whoever got the Monaco Elite will love it. Have you tried posting anything on the Hamer Forum to see if any of those guys may have one for sale? Sometimes they do come up there and are cheaper befoer they put it on e-bay. Good luck and if possible get the Custom.
