Re: Gibson Traditional Plus - bridge pickup replacement.

I would try the Custom/59 hybrid, versatile enough to cover all your bases....

Re: Gibson Traditional Plus - bridge pickup replacement.

I go by how they sound, doesn't matter the height. The only pickup I d measure is the DiMarzio Super Distortion. 2 American nickels thickness on the bass side and 1 American nickel on the treble side. You can use the height of the 57 Classics as a starting point but not totally necessary.

What makes you say that about the Super D? I have one an set it by ear, but you have a better suggestion for it i would love to hear it

That's they way I've been setting that pickup for years. Too close to the strings and the bass side gets boomy. The 2 nickel/1 nickel trick has never failed as a base setting for me. After that, I adjust to taste from there.

The "Some Yamaha pickup" in the bridge was a Duncan Custom 5. Just sayin.

Re: Gibson Traditional Plus - bridge pickup replacement.

I have an LP Traditional Plus, as well. Yanked the 57 Classics and put in Antiquities. Perfect.

Thanks for the info- guess that's the reason it sounds great!?

Did you have the harsh brittle sound as well? How did your LP perform after the upgrade?

Also a good choice.

I also ordered a CTS, Bumblebee PIO board from strat100 from eBay; he reckons the board alone will fix the harshness, I'm still doing the PUP's as well as the board & loom

Re: Gibson Traditional Plus - bridge pickup replacement.

Thanks everyone for your input, I have ordered a set of of APH-1 (n & b) - I figured if it doesn't work they way I want then I will sell the whole bloody lot and just buy a custom!
BTW, is there a starting height for the APH-1's? I guess I should measure the existing pickups before taking them off and then set the APH-1 at that point?...

Cheers

Damn, that was fast, I hope it works out for you.
