Any opinions-pro/cons between a VOS Les Paul Junior singlecut and doublecut?..I'm seriously thinking of getting one within the next few months..But since these guitars are not available in our small local music shops, i'll have to go by forum bros' opinions before I buy one online..Thanks in advance! Oh, also would like your opinions on which finish to get between TV yellow or faded cherry..I'm torn! haha..

I think the double cuts look like rock and roll.

Here's my '59.

Very nice Special you got there! I'm actually leaning towards the DC myself, but I have one main issue about it..And that's the location of the strap button on the back of the guitar, instead of on top like the singlecut version..Has the strap button on the back location ever bothered you guys?

I like both the SC and DC in TV yellow. Whichever you choose, you GOTTA go with the tortiose pickguard like this one:

And a Lollar P90 wont hurt either!

Re: Gibson VOS LP Junior DC vs SC

They originally came with a darker tort pickguard. The black guards are a new thing for the DC guitars.

I think I prefer plain black pickguard myself..

How do Lollar's compare to the Gibson issued P90? If they are grittier i'd consider it..I'd be playing Johnny Thunders style '77 punk/rawk..(currently through a '65 Fender Bassman w/2x12..AA165 circuit)

DC.

TV Yellow.

Strap button is fine.

If you put Tort on, you are banned from the forums.
You really need to be made a mod so those threats mean anything.

Personally... single cut, cherry with a tort guard...

Then again I'd go with two pups but hey...

And TGB... remember I saved that pic in the dress lol

Move the button to the upper horn. I would.

I would hesitate doing that to a new $2000 axe though..

I guess it depends on what you're getting it for.

If it turns out to be a guitar you like with the exception of the strap button- drill it, but do it well. The horn is strong enough and well suited for a strap button. You see enough of the player DCs that have the strap button installed onto the horn.

I don't particularly like the button on the back- but mine came with the button on the horn. My 65 Epi Olympic came with the button on both the back AND the horn, so I only use the horn. My T-Bird only has the button on the back, and I really don't want to mess with that.

Re: Gibson VOS LP Junior DC vs SC

The lollar just sounds better. Its definitely not grittier. If anything probably the opposite, the stock gibson is was harsher while the Lollar was smoother, warmer, went into crunch easier with a slightly thicker tone. The lollar was the best P90 ive ever heard. My friend's dad has a Les Paul Junior and put in 4 different pickups. Stock Gibson, Lollar, Duncan Antiquity and a vintage Gibson from 56. He has the vintage one in there now, but the Lollar to my ears sounded BETTER. The vintage one isn't as chunky. The Antiquity sounded most like the vintage one obviously - brighter and thinner than the lollar from what I heard. And the stock gibson sounded the brightest and just the least inspiring.

I also hear the Fralin P90 is amazing, but that Lollar sounded incredible!! Antiquity sounded great too, and no doubt the vintage one sounds amazing. But I liked the Lollar the best.

The old Ibanez Jr I had originally had the button on the back, but the previous owner changed it to the upper horn before I bought it..I had no issue with it whatsoever in that spot..One day I decided to put the button in it's original spot just for fun..I really didn't like it..The guitar just didn't sit as well on my shoulders and it also seemed to add some weight on my left shoulder too..Here's a pic of the backside of the old Ibanez..Note the button:
