Gibson vs. Edwards

Re: Gibson vs. Edwards

Bros, the Navigators are NOT in the price range being discussed in this thread. 609,000 yen is $5,190 U.S. Lower models are priced at just $3,132...

Nice...but I'd go Gibby Custom Shop with that kind of cabbage.

It depends on the model. I hear alot of people rave about the Edwards LPs. I owned an Edwards SG and thought it was junk.

I've owned Orville, Burny and Tokai...but never an Edwards. Out of curiosity, what exactly didn't you like about it?

The neck was skinny and felt weak (IMO, a strong, thick neck is soooo important in an SG...most important aspect), the body is substantially smaller than Gibson's, the hardware and all the plastic (pickguard, TR cover, etc.) felt really cheap. It just felt like a toy compared to all the Gibson models of SG I've played. It looked fantastic (binding, inlays, etc.), but feel is king. It was not there for me.

Re: Gibson vs. Edwards

Oh I almost forgot. The Edwards SGs have a 90 degree neck joint (no angle) like those scant 70's models. That is a big no no for me.

In a nutshell, thats the issue I had with mine. Looks were great, feel was all wrong (for me)..certainly doesn't feel like the real deal.

Tokai is much closer in the feel to the real deal..but not *quite* there. 85%.

Re: Gibson vs. Edwards

Wow, good to know. Thanks for the info.

The neck/neck joint is the Achille's heel of the SG design, so an unstable neck is a major turnoff. (scratches Edwards SG off want list)
