Gibson vs Grover tuners

If I can get Gibson branded tuners like this for $62 or Grover branded tuners like this for $40, is there any reason to pay the extra $22? I mean... is the Gibson set going to be any better?

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

I think the green is gross. Not a fan of those vintage tuners.

Also not a fan of vintage pink tuners on SGs.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

I think your just paying for name. If your looking keep the value of guitar than go for the gibson's. If you don't care then get either gotoh or grover tuners.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

Do you give a Rat's @$$ about what the tuners look like as long as they match the general aesthetic of the guitar? (Crome/Gold/Black/Vintage). Jeez -it's the BACK of the freakin' headstock! Get the highest ratio at the lowest cost! And if they AREN'T real original Gibson, it won't do jack for the resale to a collector geek.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

the pegs do show though, and i think they add a ****load of character to a guitar. all les pauls that have somewhat of a vintage looking finish should have keystone style tuners. without them it just doesnt look right. im replacing mine by the end of the summer.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

Kluson sucks big hairy moose sac. I'm through with this thread. Nothing more can be said of value.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

you gotta calm down man, the guy is just trying to get new tuners, and were helping him through what to get.

anyways, i think that keystone like the ones i suggested before would be best. they work amazing and you get to keep that nice vintage gibson look.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

Plastic headed tuners look like crap, no matter who makes them.

But, if you must have them, the Grovers will probably work at least as well as the Gibsons after break-in.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

I agree. And I defeinitely do not agree that any tuners will do the job. Different guitars NEED different tuners! On one with all chrome hardware, use chrome tuners. Gold? Use gold tuners. Vintage? Use Vintage style gold tuners. Metal? Use black tuners. But those green ones that come standard are just gross.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

I upgraded to the Gotoh locking keystone tuners on my LP Standard, and I really like them. I agree that unless you have a broken tuner or other major issue, there is no need to change tuners if you aren't going to upgrade to locking tuners. The locking versions make string changes a breeze, that's the main reason I like them.

If I didn't care about keeping my guitar "vintage" looking, I'd upgrade to locking Grover tuners...these are the best tuners I have ever used.

Sorry man - your right....Deep breath, calm down, find my good place. It's just that I'm a tuning freak. I have a set of 18:1 Gotohs that are unbelievable. The joy of picking up the guitar and knowing that short Heatmiser and Coldmiser having an argument across the guitar, it WILL be in tune. Ahhhhhhhhh.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

wow 18:1 thats insane

how much did those gotoh locking keystone tuners cost you? and where did you buy them? everywhere i look its out of stock.

Re: Gibson vs Grover tuners

Ping makes Gibson's "Deluxe" tuners. I would go for Grover any day of the week.
