Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

Don't know if this has already been discussed, but looks like Gibson has split their '16 line into 2....
1) HP Series with the failed 2015 specs....wider nut and fretboard, G Force... (Looks like the nut is not titanium instead of brass)
2) T Series with the pre 2015 traditional specs

Looks like their giving it another shot with the new spec line even though the 2015 stuff tanked

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

I wonder how many MBAs it took to come up with this, when literally every person in every 2015 Gibson thread suggested this? ;)

Which Les Paul signature is on the headstock?

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

the prices have come down a bit too. i played a 2016 sg standard that was quite nice and $1199 seemed fairly reasonable considering gibson's recent prices.

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

Whatever they have built, they still have to sell. Presumably, dealerships are being offered incentives to carry these turkeys. The additional costs of stripping and refacing headstocks would be prohibitive.

Thirty years from now, the current crop of duds will be as scarce as the Corvus and the LP Studio M-III. Still, few will want them.

The 2015's left over at my guitar center are being marked down at pretty big discounts....and they STILL aren't selling

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

I really kind of want the Less+, I didn't see it carried over for '16. I can live with the '15 spec but I'd really rather the traditional neck profile.

Probably not so much giving it another shot as they just have a lot of leftover 2015 crap they still have to move.

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

The 2016 hp nut and board is not quite as wide as 2015. They have published the measurements and you can see the 2016 hp lies between the traditional and 2015 spec.

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

I agree with the idea of having 2 separate lines. There's guys like me, who just want a good chunk of wood and there's the other guys who think Floyds on Les Pauls is where it's at.

I'd buy one of those LP traditional Ts if I could.

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

I liked nearly all of the 2015 "improvements" except the neck width and maybe the nut. I do want G-force - I'm lazy and don't have the ear training to tune by ear. Also the pickups were interesting with 61's and 59 tributes.

The 2016's seemed to have ditched them for the standard 490 series and even the 57 classics that were on the studios are now on the traditional, fine pickups i'm sure, but for £1000 more I'd want a bit more special pickups. Burstbucker 1 & 2 perhaps? It's my bug bear with the 57s in general as they've been on £900 (£675 i see the 2015 studio is now) - £5000 (older es175s).

Oh I've bought the faded studio T, It's a lovely guitar. The BB pros really are versatile and I've only minor tweaked the setup to personal taste. I compared the sg faded similar price and really not impressed with the tone that the 490 pickups gave, Louder but much less musical to my ears. the set up and feel was rougher as well, with much lighter coloured rosewood than the studio.

Sorry for the side view I don't know what's happening with that.

I actually liked the new nut that they had in the '15 range, I just wish they offered a normal width version of it and not just the wider spec version

Re: Gibson's 2016 line split into 2

Meh.

Just stick to traditionally spec'd production versions and compliment them with actual hotrodded production versions people will want... A 7 or 8 string, LP/ES w/ stock Bisby, an SG/Exp/V/LP with 24 frets, a thin neck, Floyd Rose and shaved down heel, optional EMGs. No stupid inlays on anything. P90/PAF in standard finish/trim.

Sell the stupid robot tuners separate as an aftermarket bolt on.

thats what I figure.. gotta sell the turds they made.. Maybe they are trying be innovative too. Innovative line and trad line.. I dont like the "signature" logo on the headstock.. looks cheap..
