As a gigging guitarist, about a year ago i switched over to using some bags to save space/weight but did not want to compromise the protection of the instrument ... I looked and looked and finally bought one of these ...

Haven't looked back ... extremely satisfied. Expensive, yes. Worth it, yes. I now own 3.
My main thing was the fact that I don't have a van to haul my gear in anymore (thanks to an accident) and the vehicle i replaced it with just doesn't have the room i expected it to have.
I have traveled with the MONO bag, and had a roadie drop my guitar TWICE right on the headstock .. I about had heart failure. no issues whatsoever AND the guitar was still in tune. Ill preach these till the day I die!

I dunno why so many people are comparing decent hard cases to super-cheapo gig bags. Seems like comparing apples with pineapples. A good gig bag (like the MONO one mentioned a few posts above) will protect a solidbody guitar at least as well as most HSCs. On the other hand, carrying your guitar around in a gig bag that costs and protects about the same as an Express Mail envelope is a risky endeavor. On the other other hand, carrying a guitar in a crappy HSC (e.g., one that doesn't effectively support the neck) is asking for trouble in the event of a fall.
Bottom line to me is that if it's worth playing, it's probably worth protecting, whether in a robust gig bag or well-built hard case.
Thank you for pointing that out. I see no point in super high quality gig bags as I'd rather have a hardshell for much cheaper than the gig bag.Where are the so many posts doing that? I don't see them.
The OP is only considering switching due to space considerations. Super high quality gig bags actually take up more space than hard cases IME.
Your roadie, eh?
Welcome to the forum.
Why do I feel like I just watched an infomercial?
LOLOLOL .. it wasn't meant to sound THAT bad ... just trying to make the point that i was skeptical on going the bag route at first with predominantly local gigging with occasional regional and beyond gigs. And I am pretty anal about my gear.
Thanks for the welcome!
