Gitcha Rat on. MF Stupid Deal of the Day

Re: Gitcha Rat on. MF Stupid Deal of the Day

I remember there being an issue about whether the newer Rat pedals didn't sound as good as the originals, and can never remember which ones have which chips.

I'm assuming these ones on clearance are the less desirable ones. So, you're saying to buy this one and then install the LM308?

Still not sure I even like the filtered distortion tone they have. I had an old Rat and got tired of it pretty quickly.

Re: Gitcha Rat on. MF Stupid Deal of the Day

I'm saying that it's easy to get an LM308 and a $.99 IC socket from Radio Shack to upgrade the chip, is all.
Did it for the Deucetone I found on eBay and it was easy peasy.
The Deucetone is 2 Rats in one pedal with selectable clipping for both sides with one side selectable for no clipping, basically just relying on the IC.

They're not for everyone, but I totally love mine.

That said, socketing the LM308 and adding an on/on/on switch for selectable clipping options (LEDs/diodes, etc.) makes it able to duplicate pretty much any of the Rat pedals.

And $50 is cheap.

Re: Gitcha Rat on. MF Stupid Deal of the Day

I've been using a Rat2 for several years as my only distortion pedal. I doubt it could sound any better in my ears, tho I bet there are some audiophiles on this forum who thinks otherwise.
If I could get it for that price in Sweden tho, I'd probably buy on or two more, just to have as backups and/or carry with me for self defense (seriously, it's built like a brick made out of old soviet tanks).

I have one, that is a good deal

thinking of doing the keeley mod to it which does a bit more than the 308 mod; never did any soldering myself, but it sounds easy and cool tho. :beerchug:

Just another heads up. Apparently ProCo/MF decided to spread the love.
Price is $50 again.
