at amps in my range. nothings lived up to what they've said online to what it sounds like in-store

so im getting the AD30VT-XL.

so can owners of this amp give me info on flaws/cons on this item i might run into?

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

The blue grill models are the deluxe versions with all the options. I have no idea why they discontinued some of them, and replaced them with a stripped down metal grill version.

You can score some great deals on used ones, although on digital gear it's nice to have their warranty.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

I have the VTX 120 which is the blue grille version. It does a good job. Very versatile and while the sounds aren't "dead-on", a lot of them are pretty good. It is a very usable amp. I know nothing about the metal grilled versions, I played some in the store when I got this one and there was really no comparison.

I've got the AD100VTH head -- the metal grille version -- and it's got some really great tones. I play it through a Mesa 2x12 with V30s, which I think makes a good bit of difference. Really great amp for home use as well as at rehearsals and gigs.

I've always liked the head versions of modelers more, just so the OD channels have some thump with a sealed cab.

I can't recall.....on the metal grill amps, is there OD models you can add to the amp models? And I agree, they seem to be the best "home amps."
As a matter of fact, I think everyone who uses a tube halfstack should buy a modeling head, just so they can use it when volume is an issue.

Naah. It's just the amp modeling with a Drive setting. Works well enough for me. With the various amp models, I can get a number of OD and distortion characteristics. It's a highly versatile amp.

No, the metal grill amps do not have stompbox models in them. That is one of the differences between them and the discontinued blue grill models.

I've been using an AD50VT for almost 2 years and it's been a great amp. No problem with it keeping up with the rest of the band and is quiet enough for home use by rolling the wattage selector back (another diff - variable wattage selector rather than fixed presets).

This is the feature I like best in the metal grille version over the blue grille version.

This is the feature I like best in the metal grille version over the blue grille version.

Both the Blue face version and the metal grill versions have that power-cut feature.

You do know, I suppose that the Xl version you are looking at is a line geared specifically for metal players? I have one of the metal grill versions and for the price it cannot be beat. I would assume they have done their homework as well on the new XL line, but I've never played one.

Yes, but the blue-face version has fixed power settings, while the metal grille version has a continuous power adjustment knob.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

I have had the 100-XL combo for about six months. It is definately for high gain styles. It sounds excellent for what it does. If you want more versatility, stay with the chrome face models. I almost regret not getting the chrome model. I just may have to have both.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

i mostly do every Sub-Genre in the Metal catagory. lots of distortion. etc.. so which is better Black or Chrome?

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

oh and is there 5150/6505+ models on it? or could i get that tone out of it?

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

I picked up an AD60VTX this past December and have been using it in the three-set bar band I'm in exclusively.

I've been very happy with it. I tend to bounce between a few different models (Bassman, Soldano and Marshall) and they're pretty spot-on. Now that I have the controller I'm in the process of figuring out how to organize it for maximum versatility.

One thing I did discover was that for gigging it needed an EQ pedal in the effects loop. The result was pretty dramatic and changed it from a good amp to a great one.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

I'd suggest that you try one out in person. I'd also suggest that you get a head if they make one or at least get the biggest and loudest version you can. Metal is meant to be loud and the attenuator will allow you to tone the volume down to small gigs regardless anyway. I have the 30 watt XL version and it's cool, but I think I'd prefer the chrome face version over the black metal one. It's more versatile and will do more classic stuff. The XL just has varying versions of heavy on heavy with a couple of clean channels and one or two crunchy channels to go with it. If you are wreaking that kind of havoc and want to crush your audience, don't get a small version of this amp and get something that will have more overall punch like a 2x12 or a head and a 4x12 cab loaded with V30 and G12H30 cross. The amp isn't bad, but it doesn't really match my playing style.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

+1

The regular silver grill model covers plenty of high gain and distortion tones as well as some very good clean tones. I haven't had the the need or desire to try out the XL line. The silver grill VT line seems more flexible in this regard and the tones are very useful. I'd get the silver grill VT amp instead. I chose the 15 watt version cuz, IMO, it sounded waaay better then the 30 watt version doing a side by side comparison.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

There's two things I'd like added to the metal grill versions.

1. built-in tuner
2. stompbox models - maybe 3; a booster, an overdrive, and a distortion.

Since the blue grill series has been discontinued, I think those two features would be widely accepted and shouldn't increase the price much.

I did not mention allowing the effects to be assigned independently (making your own effects chains) as that would increase the price too much based on the complexity of the circuitry and programming.

Either way, my AD50 has given me the tones I need without having to sit and fiddle with it for hours on end (though I fiddle with it for hours on end anyway....lol).

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

I've got a Silver Grille AD15VT, and I think it's great.

I think it's got too many high gain options for me, but I play a lot of blues and boring music and don't play metal

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

Has anyone with a Valvetronix and a POD tried running the POD through the effects loop of the Vox?
