Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

Has anyone with a Valvetronix and a POD tried running the POD through the effects loop of the Vox?

- Keith

Wouldn't that cause a disruption on the space/time continuum?

Keep in mind, the only ones with the loop in the metal grill series are the 100 watt head and combo.

Oh, that's right. I've got a POD and a 100-watt head. I should try it.

Gotta be careful not to cross the streams. :)

Also, search this. There's a thread almost exactly like this every 72 hours or so.

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

I picked up an AD60VTX this past December and have been using it in the three-set bar band I'm in exclusively.

I've been very happy with it. I tend to bounce between a few different models (Bassman, Soldano and Marshall) and they're pretty spot-on. Now that I have the controller I'm in the process of figuring out how to organize it for maximum versatility.

One thing I did discover was that for gigging it needed an EQ pedal in the effects loop. The result was pretty dramatic and changed it from a good amp to a great one.

What EQ do you use and how do you set it up?

i'd go for the silver grill more than the black one for the same reasons people here just mentioned.

go to valvetronix.net

they have the best vox valvetronix forum out there. PM voxman, he's a very handy guy and knows a lot about vox =)

so theres no 5150 models, but mesa n lots of marshall models. and a few soldano's. thats doable. but a heartbreak for no 5150

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

The 5150 amp is part Soldano so don't let that deter you. Trust me, that Soldano model slays. I use it for my dirty sounds. And it only has one Soldano model and one Mesa model. It has a few Marshalls and a few Vox models.

ok. im excited for gettin this bastard, sounds like a good buy as a first "real" amp

I have the 50 watt Chrome version and love it. It covers lots of tones. I really like the JCM 800 and Soldano models.
It also works well hitting the front end with overdrive pedals.

I agree with these guys about the Soldano model. There are many great models on the chrome grille version, but for high gain, I go with Soldano almost exclusively.

wes, just so you know, the Soldano model is labeled "US High Gain" on the dial. And think outside the box when it comes to the EQ. Don't always EQ it like you would the real amp. There's some cool tones in there to be found just by EQing a little unconventionally.

Well, it's a funny thing....

Generally I use it to boost the mids and the highs. But in some places those parts can get a little bit much so it also works to tame them a touch.

The difference between it being on and being off is like having a moving blanket over the amp though....

Re: Give me some info about VOX. valvetronix to be exact.

i mostly do every Sub-Genre in the Metal catagory. lots of distortion. etc.. so which is better Black or Chrome?

If you are playing metal, metal, and more metal, I don't see why you aren't sure you want the XL series, since its geared for that. While I am satisfied with the gain on the silver face models, there is definitely some nu metal territory it does not venture into.
