Is it the basswood with TOM one?
What do you think Custom would sound in a mahogany strat with locking trem tuned down to drop C?
I use GHS Boomers 10-60 btw, so is it gonna sounds too muddy?

i suck at helping people about guitars, ive owned 3 and played about 7 in my entire life. lol
is basswood the color of the fret board? sorry to ask what is TOM?

i use 52-10 light top heavy bottom. best set i can get my hands on.

I'd say from the descriptions the sh5 is going to remain tighter in low tunings, anyone else with experience want to chime in

Basswood is the wood of the body, your fretboard seems to be rosewood.
TOM stands for Tune-O-Matic,it's your tailpiece style.
Judging by the specs then your guitar seems to be warm sounding,isn't it?
10-52 on C# tuning feels a little loose on the lows, so I think Custom is stiff enough to make your guitar sounds tight.

Still,I'm confused..

That is true. That why they sound good in LP style guitars, it stays tight even with slack on the strings.

id say the guitar is warm sounding, when i try to overcompensate for the warmth and bring up highs i can sometimes get an over amount of treble way up on top, so yea it makes sense that the wood is working against me there.

C# with 52s is a little loose, i try to play very accurate cause i know it will flab uneven in a mix. so far SH5 is keeping me very tight on the bottom, not extremely no bass tight but just the right amount it seems for now.

Many folks here said that the lower we tuned,the chunkier Custom gets. I'm just afraid it'd sounds muddy in my guitar regarding how big my low string gauges is.
I play mainly stuffs from "Master of Puppets" Metallica to newest Killswitch Engage with my band,with some Deep Purple, Queen and Led Zeppelin thrown in when I'm just jamming.
Now I'm extremely torn between Custom, Distortion, or Screamin' Demon (Diego, Benjy and dr.ad did a good job in keeping my eyes to this baby LOL).

so far id say from all the info i can read, the SH5 is right inbetween stuff. like the best starting point you could ever have from a ceramic 14k output pickup.

i think you would have no problem digging into the SH5 ceramic grit to play MOP stuff, killswitch i was able to do just yesterday, just not as much sustain, EMG hold the note ill give it that.
Screamin might not having enough bass for you if you like metal. and the Distortion i hear has this shimmering sharp treble @ 4-8k that you cant dial out, but is great for rhythm work.

I may end up getting an SH-5 if I buy the Floyd Agile 3100 LP. Sounds like that's the one for a good, non-muddy rock tone in mahogany.

all you metal heads or classic rockers this pickup is dead on amazing!
for metal/rock its tight and bulky, and has amazing cutting but solid lead tone!
for rock i can cut back gain and treble, still has all the beef but has the really nice palm mute articulation at lower gain, that ball of upper mid punch that sounds great for digging a softer rhythm for classic rock.
i feel like i have a new guitar now, same beat up schecter.

My last sh-5 clip was pretty bad, I had to redeem myself. Here is a much better take, with the guitar direct to amp, no pedals.
