Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

I was at two shops today.

The first one had a 1976/77 MkII Super Lead. It looked terrible, the tubes were dead and such. They wanted 1150 USD for it, I told them to forget about it.

Then I went to another shop. Things got very interesting. THey offered me a almost brand new Marshall JMP-1 with a Peavey 50/50 power amp for 1600 USD. How is that for a setup for a tone like that? And with a ADA MP-1 instead, it was 1400 USD.

I am gonna check out the other stuff tomorrow.

Btw. I have been offered the same 1979 MkII 2203 for 1330USD, is that a fair trade? ITs in good shape. And I have been offered 1330USD for my ENGL with footswitch, it seems fair to me, but what do you think? Should I go higher?

.....
Hey by the way Zerb...that amp that kills people may rise again...he has promised to keep working on it, so hopefully soon we will get something up and running...lol 2 years later;)

:32:

PLEEEEASE keep me posted :headbang::beerchug:

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

What amp is this then? And did you get my PM last night? :)

I got the PM, but I´m the wrong person to ask, as I don´t really know much about amps aside from that I don´t like the way most of them sound, lol.

Sorry man, but I never cared for copying someone else´s tone, and as a result I can´t really tell you much beyond what I´ve already posted as to what will get you where. ;)

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Hehe its not like I want to copy his tone like that, I just love that snarly midrange, and I want something kinda like that brall.

But just pure soundwise, do you have en idea about how a JMP-1 sounds versus a Plexi or JCM800?

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Okay. Hmm, lets give that Plexi a try tomorrow. Which pedal could make it a bit more JCM800ish? A TS-9?

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Hmm, I cant wait to try ou that Plexi tomorrow.

Isnt that the one with a more Yngwie like vibe then a JCM800? He uses 50watt MkII heads from 71-72.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

Oh my god...

I feel like the biggest dumbass right now. I didnt really use the 4x12" cab, because it was a bit to big for home, but I plugged it in. The sound was there, it wasnt as brutal, but the sound really appealed to me. It was more clear and dynamic. It wasnt as midrange snarly.

I must say I am very happy now, because I dont need a new amp, but I will try them out tomorow, one never knows :)

I think I'll try a TS9 infront of it, to give a bit more midrange snarl, or are there better pedals for that?

Anyways, thanks alot for all contributions. I feel like the biggest POS right now, damn me for not trying it out properly.

And Rid --> Dont say "I told ya so" :D

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

:D

The best thing happened which could had happen! Enjoy the rig bro!

Perhaps I should go for a 4x12 or 2x12 for my Engl too.

Re: Giving up on the ENGL, need new amp.

That was the best thing :D

That Custom 5 did make a rather big improvement over the SuperD, cheap POS. I am gonna get a DD some day to really get that aggressive midrange, would a Tubescreamer help that? Or some other pedal? :D

Thanks man.
