GlassMan "The Truth" in action

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

I would like to see this... freaking chinese block youtube :banghead: frackin great firewall of china :banghead:

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

Wow. For a typical sound quality youtube vid, that's damn good sounding. I love how little you can hear the LP player's lead breaks compared to the guy using your amp.

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

Cool amp! Nice strat. Nuthin like a real world demonstration.

That guy with the LP could stand to put some mids in or something. I thought is this guy the lead guitarist? I mean it's a Les Paul... he plays kinda like a lead guitarist... I dunno I can't tell he's not loud enough.

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

Man, the tone of your amp cuts through with that Strat. I'd like to hear the LP player through it. Maybe he should get the next one you build:scratchch

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

Is that the one I played my Rampage thru when I brought up the 5150 last winter?

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

My guess is that some of the difference in apparent volume may have to do with the relationship between the amps and the guy recording the vid.

I did like the strat players tone, but couldn't realistically judge the amps contribution to the tone because of the effect pedals between the strat and amp.

I'd really like to hear a demo guitar > cord > amp to get a better idea of what the amp is capable of.

Yup (to everything). The LP guy's amp seems to be behind the counter or something..

But yeah, it sounds excellent! But a naked demo would be awesome too! :)

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

That's cool, Jerry.

Can't wait for someone to give the amp a run-through on its own, particularly the reactance pot. They're unfortunately out of my price range, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested. :D

Good luck with everything.

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

I agree with everyone in that I need to get some straight into the amp live demos. I have plenty of guys locally that want to take one out but I honestly don't know any of them who don't use pedals live. Mike (the Strat player in the video) actually uses his pedals less than most guys I know. His Strat is loaded with SD "little 59's" so it isn't a traditional Strat sound to begin with.

I'd love hear that LP plugged into the amp too. He' using a Peavey Classic 50 in the video and I think the volume difference is mainly due to his amp being so far off axis.

Is that the one I played my Rampage thru when I brought up the 5150 last winter?

Nope...that was it's older, less refined brother. The new one has that tone in it and a whole lot of others. Next time you head this way you will be plugging in! Prepare yourself.

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

I think it sounds seriously great. Some amps just don't take to strats very well, but it cuts so well and sounds so rich even in less than ideal acoustic situations (nevermind the poor recorder). I think you've got something very good here :)

Cut it does. I hope to add more of these type of clips in a live situation with different players and guitars. Controlled environment clips are nice but I believe that an amp is only as good as its performance in a live situation in a real (less than ideal) room.

I'm thinking about recording some clips of my own to show off the amp's versatility. I need to get a camera that can record the amp at typical performance sound levels. Do you guys think these would be valuable or should I concentrate on the live videos only? If I end up doing this, hopefully you guys can excuse my somewhat poor sense of timing and rhythm only chops.

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

Yeah, I really liked the sound of that. It's a nice way to whet our collective appetite for proper, professional video demos.

Congratulations, dude. That's a great sounding amp you've built there. :friday:

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

cool. i had a look...
If i may offer a suggestion....rather than questionable audio quality video recordings, and if as you say your own chops are limited...perhaps it would be worth getting a really good pro player for a whole day (pay him in beer if not cash!) and get him into a studio with the amp miced up properly and have him record some different settings and different guitars thru it. Then just attach the mp3s to your website.
If you really want to you can have juts about any video camera running parallell with the high quality audio recordings if you really need visuals to go with the sound - or maybe even a commentary. But definitely....good player and a few good recordings will pay you back i reckon. you spend so much time and effort to make a really special amplifer it really deserves to be shown in the best possible light for potential clients.

I have that covered; those audio and video clips will be rolling in over time. I was just wondering if some "real world" coverage would be helpful as well.

In my experience, just about any amp can be professionally recorded to sound great. However, not every amp that sounds great in a pro recording sounds that good in a performance environment. My intent is to show that this amp isn't one of those. The beauty of amateur recordings is that they are what they are...raw...and ugly comes across as ugly and vise versa.

Re: GlassMan "The Truth" in action

thats good news that all that stuff is on the way. but a lot of great sounds can sound like total crap if you put the mic in the wrong place - for example that guy playing the les paul's tone is awful on the video , but if you were standing where hes is it prolly sounded great. Lucky he was using the peavey! lol
So if you gonna use live recording - maybe make sure it done pro as well. Theres no point having stuff up there if its less than killer - it wont make ppl want to buy your amp. Put your best foot forward and people will follow.
