Glue used on set necks? Luthiers?

does anyone know what kind of glue set necks are attached to the body with?

I'm sure different companies use different kinds, but in general, what's a good idea?

Hide Glue is "traditional", but I use Normal wood glue. Thick Superglue will also work, DO NOT use epoxy!!

Sometimes you'll have to remove a set neck, acoustic top ... etc.

You usually steam/heat joints to seperate the two pieces. I've never used epoxy for a wood to wood application, but I believe that the steam method doesn't work on epoxy. I've been informed that the only way to get epoxy off of a wood joint is with a chisel, sledge hammer (joking) and sandpaper.

Just from a woodworking background, not a Luthier one ... but the principles seem to be the same

That´s one reason, and a good one, mind you.

But the main reason is that epoxy doesn´t penetrate into the wood fibers as well as the others do, leaving for a weaker joint. Depending on how the fit is you may or may not have problems. I say why risk it ;)
