I'm thinking of either buying a Les Paul or a Godin LG signature. From what I've gathered, the LG is the Les Paul of the Godin serie. But does it sound close to a Paul? I heard that Gibsons are not what they used to be and I'm pretty sure that the quality of Godin is better. The price of a LG signature is almost half the price of a Les Paul. Still, a Gibson is ever so tempting... What do you guys think?

to be honest many guitars can get the lp tone, just try to match the woods and pups

If you are on a serious budget, Godin LG will get you close enough. It's the best budget guitar out there if you ask me.

Re: Godin LG signature= Les Paul?

I tried an LG Sig and bought an LP Studio. The LG Sig is really nice, with a bright and airy tone -- more like a Fender with HBs to my ears, though not identical. It is lighter in weight and in tone than a LP, but it lacked the low end chunk and thunk of a LP. I think the LG's are excellent guitars, but if you want a the LP tone, then get a LP.

It will definitely get you in the neighborhood, but the neck is still no a glue in and so you will not get the glued in neck sonic charecteristics, for better or ill. I've got a Godin LG P90, it's fabulous. I don't think it sounds very airy though. If you want honest LP thunk and chunk as Kelsey put it, but don't want a Gibson look at the Heritages. Same construction methods, same kalamazoo plant.

Being a fan of Godin i say get the LGX!!!! the piezo model. They sound great! The scale lengh is Fender scale on the LG Signature and LGX's and the neck is a bolt on. But the neck is a nice fit! They are one nice guitar and different from a Les Paul but great on their own. If i was ever a big rock star or something, laugh laugh laugh..... i'd be hitting Godin up for a deal.

I own the LG siganture, i have not compared it A/B to a gibson but it has beat out MANY a guitar in its price range, i am extremely happy with this guitar, they have beautiful finishes, come stock with seymour duncan pickups, and locking tuners(2 things gibson doesn't have) they also have have a 5 way switch(bridge/split bridge/both/split neck/neck) another thing a gibson doesn't have, and finally it has a string thru body giving it more sustain.

If you want a LP you have to unfortunately buy one. Check the Studios out if your on a budget. They play just like standards accept about 1000 dollars less.
