Of power tubes, of course. I just replaced the JJ EL84's in my JCA20H with a set of Mullard RIs. I don't hear a whole lot of difference, except a little bit of the harsher top end is gone. May have something to do with the fact that I biased it a little bit colder, though. I don't think the JJ's are worn out, but I had bought a backup set, and since they sound a little better, I don't see any reason to switch back.

My first ever job as a thirteen-year old was in a musical instrument repair shop. I started in march, 1971. (I'm ooooooooooooooold!)

Twins and Plexis were their speciality.

Having said that, maybe my memory is failing after over 40 years, but I think running the BIAS colder raises the headroom, hence the articulation by making the pick attack more present, so the amp sound "harder"?

That's how I remember it, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's what I thought too, Pepe. But you know how it is. Theory tells you one thing, and your ears tell you another. In the end, I have to listen with my ears.
