Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

Cheapest tele or strat you can find, cover it in stickers, drag it behind a truck for a mile, cover it in more stickers. Then throw a few (half full) beer bottles at it and spill coffee over it, afterwards allowing it to air dry. Add a few cigarette burns and you´re done.

Repair anything that´s been damaged as haphazardly as possible while retaining at least some form of function and rock out :headbang:

to be honest I would never put a sticker on a guitar; simply because I've known people who've done that just because they saw someone else do it.

I wanna headbang with a pristine looking white falcon already!

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

I feel that everybody needs to have one guitar or Bass that´s just covered in stickers. If nothing else then merely as a way of using all of the stickers that you get left right up and down at skateshops, metal shops, headshops and whatnot :laugh2:

I always saved those for the case. To bad I sold the last case I was throwing them on. LOL that guy still owes me $10 more for that thing.

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

My Squier Strat has stickers all over it. I would never put stickers on another guitar. But every once in a while I add more stickers to the Squier.

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

i know a guy who plays punk on a evh guitar lol, and hes been in a punk band since punk began! i use everything from a battered sg covered in stickers to a immaculate white sheraton. punk started out as a working mans music. now punk music is just music, for anyone who wants to play it on whatever guitar they can afford, so who gives a **** if you play on a prs or a spade with strings?
plus not every punk band played power chords all the time, open chords contribute a lot to the classic punk tone.

Exactly. I actually wanted to refinish my bass, so I stripped off almost all the stickers. What happened was it merely got a makeover :laugh2:

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

Alder body Tele, all maple neck and, hum-routed 6 saddle Tele bridge with a Phat Cat, and the stock neck pickup or a (mini)bucker. I play punk on my Phat Cat Tele a lot and it does it soooo well (Clash to Rancid to NOFX to Dead Kennedys to Leftover Crack). Get a black as a tribute to Joe Strummer!!

GET A BLACK AS A

no seriously, we all know the most punkest guitar ever conceived is right here:

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

I've always wanted to play some punk on a White Falcon. It'd be almost like wiping your @$$ with silk

Well then you might dig The Living End - Chris Cheney rocks Gretsch and has a badazz Falcon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GC-JyMVTis

You should also check Bow Wow Wow - Matt Ashman was a killer guitarist, played with Adam and the Ants and Chiefs of Relief as well. Died about 15 years ago, never really got the recognition he deserved - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HQzVO2egDY

Gretsches while beautiful don't really hold up all that well to punked up mauling so unless you are or have a good tech be prepared for aggravation. The MIJ & MIK Gretsches actually hold up a little better than the originals IME.

That Gecko/Pukeburst is all right!

Since you are saying that you need a low price,
Peavey made a guitar that might be what you are looking for:

That's a pretty bad ass indie kinda looking piece right there :fing2:

**** it - beat up your PRS already and rock out with that!

I've yet to hear a strat sound really raunchy and punk has bite, so I'd go for a telecaster myself if I had to choose between the two.

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

I bet you could get some nice ska-punk outta a strat and a good british amp

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

Good luck finding one

Mosrites sell for about 2500$ new, minimum now.

My PRS is what I use for every other kind of music, as it fits with hard rock, classic rock, jazz, blues, funk, all that stuff.

Punk is a different beast.

I like Zerbs idea of going ballistic on the strat

Re: Gonna need a guitar for punk music...

Punk rock has always been about rebellion from the norm and self-expression...thereby, playing a traditionally non-punk instrument makes you even more punk.

Tim from Rancid comes from mind, with all those Gretsch hollowbodies.

If 'yer gonna say "punk" and Gretsch in the same sentence its almost criminal to not mention Billy Zoom...

Or even the Rev. Horton Heat.

Rancid? Dude... really? That was the first band that came to mind?
