Gonna try some hybridizing of my own...expert help sought

I have a couple P90s I'm going to put in my LP Pro. Antiquity bridge model and Vintage neck. They'll replace some Lawrence L-560s I have in there now. However, due to construction specs on the guitar and the pickups, the Ant will go in the neck spot and the Vintage in the bridge spot. The Vintage is taller, the Ant is shorter and I need height in that bridge spot and extra clearance in the neck spot.

I thought for grins I might swap some magnets around. The Ant is A2 and the Vintage is A5. I see there's two magnets under the bobbin, one on each side of the pole screws. If I swapped a magnet on each pickup so they both had a A5 slug and an A2 slug, would that work? Would it do anything tonewise? I thought maybe it would brighten the neck and warm the bridge just a tad.

I seek the wisdom of the collective

Here's the intended home :D

It will work. When I asked this question a few months ago, someone (Evan?) tried a P90 with an A2 and an A5 and said it sounded like ass. But, it's worth a shot, and you'll never know until you try.

Hmmm, ass, huh?

How would an A5 Ant and A2 Vintage sound I wonder?

Please let me know if you ever "intend" looking for a new "home" for the entire guitar.

No wisdom to offer, but the guitar looks fantastic!!

Gave me bad GAS attack right away.

One hell of cool LP, dude...

Thanks, it's a pretty neat guitar. 1978 Les Paul Pro Deluxe. It's built like a regular Deluxe, but comes with P90s instead of the minihummers and has an ebony fretboard.

Re: Gonna try some hybridizing of my own...expert help sought

put rio grande mini hummers in there or dimarzio pickups or dont get some spacers

Re: Gonna try some hybridizing of my own...expert help sought

That is one of the sweetest paulas i've ever seen. you have good taste. and if it weren't for the scale length i'd be having GAS pains.

Re: Gonna try some hybridizing of my own...expert help sought

Thanks :D

David, have you tried the Rio Babybuckers? They interest me bigtime.

Bump up, still looking for opinions.

Question from previous responses, "How would an A5 Antiquity and A2 Vintage sound I wonder?"

Re: Gonna try some hybridizing of my own...expert help sought

or even get the jimmy page mod if you ever decide to go the hummer route...but those p90s smell nice
